I usually try to get the device IP first. I connect it to my known working Powerbook G4 with Tiger, hardwired through ethernet cable, then allow WIFI internet sharing "through ethernet". Usually all older machines get detected and a correct IP addressed. Then I can use the IP for manual...
ok, intzernetz works now, had to share it up to my 12"G4 to see the actual IP the 190 is getting..the old 3Com EtherlinkIII pcmcia card is still doing a good job..also the 68k version of iCab browser..not sure what usage is this good for. lol.
it gets better when you clean the trackpad but it comes back quickly..and yes, wet or fatty fingers are a problem, maybe the tiny trackpad is just not good quality..clicking and dragging works under 8.1 though
hm on the oldCrap site there is a photo with the same mod done on the board..so I guess its stock, strange.

I could get a Duo 230 but the screen looks bad, vinegar syndrome? ..is it fixable when I try to peel off the polarizer film and replace it?
I had a badly cracked top and with a 3d printed shim this came out quite ok..
seems very stable, I can open it with one finger now..so this is doable, your hinge almost looks separated but I would try it.
the shim is located exacly at the weak spot.

have you removed the PRAM battery yet, maybe it is bad..or the old OS install.
then, the usual procedures, resetting NVRAM and check the hard drive against a known good one ( and/or do a new install).
