Yup, and while going down the rabbit hole I started downloading (and still am) shareware CDs and such that have externals on them. Some might be useful, some not, but I have about 30 sitting on the board right now and maybe 100+ sitting in a dir.

Because I have absolutely no life, I spent a couple of hours going down the rabbit hole of old Usenet posts to see what was going on at the time. Depending on who was posting, the message area was definitely the issue, and other people said that it would break your OS, reset your PRAM, steal...

Thanks much. It's not so much that it didn't work it seems - it did exactly what it was supposed to do - it allowed the use of the old serial #. However, somewhere in the code of the program it's supposed to do something odd when it comes across that serial #.

Looks like the issue goes wayyyy back to the beforetimes! I've seen conversations about clocks being configured wrong, etc, causing the issue.

To make it even more interesting, if I take the serial from random places for 3.0.2 and put it in an install of 3.0, I get the exact same results. I guess unless I can somehow a registered version of 3.0-3.2, I'm stuck :/

and... yup.. moving it forward a couple of months kills it.

Well then, I guess we'll find out :). I'll see if I can timewarp a few months and see what happens. It takes the serial #, but what ends up happening is that it LOOKS like it's working, but if you're posting a message in a message base, you can get about 23 characters in and it kicks you off...

Adding to this old thread - is the serial # in the txt file actually required, or is the app itself cracked and the serial # is there for reference? I did manage to apply the serial number in the txt file, but it corrupts the install so I'm assuming it's not needed?

What version of Hermes are you screenshotting? I'm trying 3.5.2, but I'm missing a few options you're showing. For example, the DCD settings arent there and the formatting isn't the same.
