Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Can you try with the 6.0.8 image that you can download from https://www.savagetaylor.com/wp-content/uploads/68k_Macintosh/Bootdisks/608_2GB_drive.zip ? On my Mac Plus, it boots to the Finder, but then the Mac bombs as I try to do almost anything (like just getting “Info about Macintosh” from the...

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

With ZuluSCSI all you have to do is to insert a FAT-formatted SD card, and copy the .hda file onto it.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Thanks. I wish I could try with LIDO, but I need to boot into macOS first.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

I was wondering if you had found anything on this. I looked at the firmware code, and it seems to inherit most of the SCSI protocol handling from SCSI2SD, which works with my Mac Plus – so it’s puzzling why it wouldn’t work in ZuluSCSI.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Thank you so much, I appreciate that! And of course it’s not a life-or-death situation, so no hurry.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Yes, I am powering the ZuluSCSI mini separately, via the USB port. I tried setting EnableSelLatch to 1, but unfortunately it still can’t boot. I am attaching the new debug log.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

And indeed I have a Mac Plus, did I forget to mention it?

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

I tried with the images for System 6.0.8 and System 7.0.1. Neither boots: the Mac shows the floppy disk icon with the question mark, but the question mark is NOT flashing, and the red LED on the ZuluSCSI stays steady on. If I insert a bootable floppy in the drive, the Mac does not attempt to...

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll do it right away and report back.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

I have undone the diode modification and provided power via the USB connector. The problem still persists: with a known-good drive image (one which used to work with SCSI2SD) I can boot to Finder, but as soon as I try to copy a file onto the HD, the Mac bombs.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

I tried with a 60 MB image, which I created with qemu-img, initialized as a single Mac OS Standard partition with Drive Setup in a Mac OS 9 environment running in qemu, and with System 6.0.8 installed on it from the Apple Legacy Recovery CD. It does not boot the Mac Plus at all... after the...

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Great thanks, I thought that was the case but I thought I might check anyway.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Thanks! I’ve been using 2GB volumes (drive images, actually, with partition map and everything – should I use volume images instead?). I will try today to use a smaller 20MB one, and I will also disable SCSI2, enable debug, and report back.

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

Thanks for your reply! The firmware version is: Additional info: I am powering the ZuluSCSI mini from the termination power, for which I have modified the Mac Plus by installing a diode to provide 5V to pin 25 of the SCSI port. I can undo the modification and try to power the ZuluSCSI device...

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

I just purchased a ZuluSCSI Mini 1.0 for my Mac Plus. I was able to boot from a System 6.0.8 image by setting SelectionDelay to zero in zuluscsi.ini, but whenever I try to copy a file to the virtual SCSI volume, my Mac Plus gives me the bomb alert with “illegal instructions”. Back in the day...
