    Broken Performa 475

I am using a fresh battery that is good, works fine in the 450.

    Broken Performa 475

Well right now it isn't giving me anything, Saturday it at least gave me a chime. Going to have to go over it again and see if anything is shorting or what. Update: Reseated things, back to starting chimes. Tried several times and the Command-Option-P-R does nothing on my 475, on the 450, I...

    Broken Performa 475

This has me thinking about the issues I am having with my 475. I started out with the start then death chimes, after reflowing and making sure two of the ram chips were making connection as they should, I am getting just start up chimes, no video. I remember attempting the Command-Option-P-R...

Strange Performa 475 (Prototype or early "Dev" model?)

The indents on my case are because it has a manual inject floppy drive like the LC III+ did.

    The front of the case.

Strange Performa 475 (Prototype or early "Dev" model?)

It does say manufactured August 1993 on the label under the front lip or is there another place to look?

Strange Performa 475 (Prototype or early "Dev" model?)

Here is a picture of mine after soaking and before re-capping, it does have the Primus name on it. The case did have the indents for the floppy drive.

    LC475 memory issue(?)

Still nothing. I tested my display with my 450 and the same cable/adapter, that worked fine. I have a MacSD in that machine and noticed the leds on the MacSD on boot, there was a cycling then normal start. On the 475, nothing other than power and termination ever lit up. We aren't getting to...

    LC475 memory issue(?)

Well I went back to it, removed the next chip, cleaned up under it, checked connections, put everything back together and got nothing...no startup sound, no death chimes. Doubled checked my work, touched up the gaps, fixed three other gaps, and tried again. Start up chimes again...and nothing...

    LC475 memory issue(?)

No. going to take a break from it for now, then do some more tracing and attempt to figure it out.

    LC475 memory issue(?)

I forgot to :( It was the same type of gaps between traces and pads, there wasn't anything really growing under it, the soak I think took care of that, the board was in fairly good condition (with the exception of the gaps).

    LC475 memory issue(?)

It was a mess under there, more of the same thing with the pads, I think I have that taken care of now. Will find out when I put the chip back. In the end this might be a learning experience (I hope not), but fingers are crossed.

    LC475 memory issue(?)

I did try that last night, looked like good connections at that point, still getting death chimes. Went back to the original photos I took of the board before clean up, I'm thinking there's something nasty under that chip at this point. Thinking about removing it, cleaning up under it (the...

    LC475 memory issue(?)

After tracing most of the data and address lines, I spotted something a little strange on the memory chip next to the two caps I replaced, I might have found an issue or it just might be another red herring

That's something that should help me in tracking this down, thank you.

    LC475 memory issue(?)

If it was the one on the right side, I would understand it, but it is the two marked in red.

    LC475 memory issue(?)

I am trying to bring a LC475 back to life, soaked it in iso for a few hours, cleaned it up, and recapped it. When it powers up I get the start up chime, then the chimes of death (long version). Based on what I have read, that should point me to a memory issue. I get the same results with...

Trying to bring a Performa 450 back to life

Recleaned both areas, no change. Looked at both with microscope, one side of the egret didn't look right. Went over the pads with a soldering iron, just to reflow each pin. We have sound, we have video. Thank you for the help in narrowing this down.
