Getting the most out of my LC III

Ok... so I got the new converter with termination and it still does not work on my LCIII and IIvx. I'm just going to assume the hdd died and order another one.  I cleaned the spots uniserver mentioned and nothing changed. Either I didnt clean deep enough or there is some other issue. I'll try a...

Getting the most out of my LC III

It's terminated with a zip drive. I tested the LC with a normal SCSI hdd and it boots, so I didn't zap the main board, thankfully.

Getting the most out of my LC III

It's one of those 10K rpm Seagate/IBM drives so I'm kinda surprised it failed. It could also be the Chinese SCA adapter... I ordered one of the nicer ones with termination to replace it. We'll see which fixes the issue. :)

Getting the most out of my LC III

Ugh, bad news today. I didn't have the supplies to clean the board today so in the mean time I was going to get ftp working on my IIvx. I swap the hdd over from the LCIII to the IIvx ( I'm cheap and only have one ) and it wouldn't boot. Messed around with the jumpers on my SCA converter...

Getting the most out of my LC III

Thanks :) Some of you guys are pros at soldering so I feel ashamed when I post my stuff haha. For the FPU, does the speed have to match the CPU speed? My LC III is 25mhz but I plan to overclock.

Getting the most out of my LC III

I'll have to check out that fat remover tool, looks pretty neat. As for my solder job... it wasn't very clean mostly because the tip on my iron is too big. From what I can tell I have a lot of excess solder, especially on the middle cap. I'll have to go clean it up when I get a better iron...

Getting the most out of my LC III

Hmm. As I plug my headphones in I get slight static out of the internal speaker. No sound through the headphones tho.

Getting the most out of my LC III

Hey guys, I've been messing around with my LC III more and noticed it can be pretty sluggish at times. Most notably games, I tried running doom out of curiosity and that went very poorly, haha.  My ram is already maxed and I am using a 10k rpm laptop drive (SCA converter). I know you can...

    Tantalum Cap sizes for LCIII

Hey guys, I ordered tantalum caps for my LC III and didn't think to look at the size codes of the caps before I bought them. The 100uf and 10uf caps are size B, which is freaking tiny. The 47uf caps are size C which is more reasonable. My question is whether the tiny B caps will work assuming...

    61xx DOS card price

Yeah, I think i'll probably pick it up if its still for sale in the next few days. I've been wanting to get a 6100 for awhile now, so when I finally do the card will actually have a purpose.

    61xx DOS card price

Hey guys, I was browsing craigslist for mac stuff as usual when I'm bored and noticed a listing for a DOS card for $10. They didn't really go into detail about the exact model, other than It includes the Windows 3.1 disks. Just wondering if this is a good deal since I don't actually own any...

    Another "Ticking" Macintosh Plus ED

I actually have a Plus I just picked up that's making a slow ticking noise too. Is that something that I should be concerned about?

    Mac Plus mouse

Hey guys, I just picked up my first compact mac a few days ago. It came with the keyboard but unfortunately, no mouse. I was wondering if there were alternative mice that could work with the connector or if I had to use the original apple mouse. As I would assume the alternative would be cheaper.

    IIVX no boot, baaaad caps.

The guide I was following suggested those exactly (rubicon brand) so I just stuck with it.  Also... another update on IIvx SCSI voodoo: I got a new cable and it boots with no termination from the zip drive. I don't really get it, but I'm happy. haha

    IIVX no boot, baaaad caps.

http://m.ebay.com/itm/301462107251?txnId=1137199395020 That's the adapter that I bought, as far as I know there's no way to terminate? Also I should mention the LC III will not boot if there ZIP drive isn't set to terminate.

    IIVX no boot, baaaad caps.

Update... I got in the mail recently an LCIII with a ZIP drive and also a SCA to SCSI50 converter. The new drive and converter works in the LCIII with the ZIP drive set to terminate. Unfortunately the IIvx doesn't seem to recognize the drive with its stock SCSI cable (3 total plugs). If i use...

    IIVX no boot, baaaad caps.

Thanks, I have already gotten it back together so I couldnt take a pic of two of the caps. Also, I have a set of 7.5 floppies that it can boot to fine. The soldering is a little messy since my iron was horrible but... It works! ;) Edit: You guys have any suggestions for a cheap storage...

    IIVX no boot, baaaad caps.

Well I just finished my recapping and it was a success! I borrowed a soldering iron from work but it was having issues staying at a high enough temperature. I basically just had to wait and then quickly do the soldering while it was still hot.  Honestly, soldering wouldn't have been difficult...
