Centris / Quadra 650 / 800 Behaviour When LEDs are Fitted

First, you have original schematics for wombat? How does one acquire those? On my actual Q800 board DS1 is not populated, but I have two Q650 boards with DS1 populated that report as Q800 if the jumpered led is installed. I'm not sure if I've ever tried the actual Q800 without the jumpered led...

    jmacz journey

I used to have one, it came with my SE that I bought second hand when I was around 11 or 12 years old. Although I recently recovered the SE from my mum's attic, I wasn't able to find the drive anywhere. Sadly, I think at some point in my foolish youth I must have decided it was old and uncool...

    My New Quadra 800

FWIW, I have five 800/8100 PSUs, and all of them are dead. Combination of Delta and Magnetek. I don't think any of them are Astec. They seem to be exceptionally/unusually fragile, but maybe it's just me. Four of them worked when I bought them and only one of them lasted for more than a few...

    LCIII Repair

Lately I've been using hot tweezers (Hakko FX8804) to remove them. Not quite as easy as hot air, but no risk of heating something you didn't mean to.

I feel like I have seen an original drawing for this. The Quadra 650/800 developers note maybe? Edit: nvm it doesn't show the curvature. It would take me a couple of minutes to scan one on my cmm, but I still don't have it setup in the new workshop :(

    jmacz journey

The cdrom drive in my 800 needed recapped very badly. I didn't realise it at first because it worked fine with actual cd roms, it was only when I discovered terrible audio quality with audio cd's that it came to light. A good number of the pads under the caps were basically gone and required...

The 650/800 is noticeably quicker than the 700 in use. I cheated and put a spare 800 logic board in my 700 case.

QuadraFPGA: HDMI for the 68040 PDS slot

I think I've tried that already, or I might have only downloaded MB when I started playing with the PPC card... When I get a chance I'll try again and actually document it!

QuadraFPGA: HDMI for the 68040 PDS slot

I have one of those. I've never been able to prove that it's working properly. The difference in benchmark results are marginal to the point that they could be MOE, but I haven't been super methodical in my testing. Edit: it's also incompatible with my silicon express cards, which I value more...

    LCIII Repair

I assume you don't have another PSU to test, or you'd have done that already... I'd do the PSU. Stable voltages when it's powered up doesn't guarantee that it's turning on cleanly. Most digital systems* are somewhat sensitive to their various voltage busses going high in a somewhat synchronised...

How do you delete all Get Info comments on a volume? Error -412

Yes, that's all ringing bells! Long time since I've thought about any of this :D

How do you delete all Get Info comments on a volume? Error -412

Am I right in thinking that you'll also lose any custom icons if you do that?

"Power Macintosh Card" and "601 Processor Upgrade" - What is the difference?

I know nothing of the LC/II upgrades, but I can confirm that my 040 PDS (PowerPC Power Macintosh Upgrade Card) one only works with the "Power Macintosh Card" control panel. Edit: Name of the card.

Quadra 700 death chime with Powermac upgrade card enabled

I honestly can't remember if I was able to do it with the card installed or not, but it shouldn't matter, it's only if there is some existing saved configuration data that there is a problem, and clearing the pram in any case should ensure that is not so. I don't want to lead you down the wrong...

Quadra 700 death chime with Powermac upgrade card enabled

Thank you. I'd had a long day and was very tired, and should have read the whole thread more carefully before I posted, but I had no ill intentions! Unfortunately by the time Phipli brought it up the edit window on my post had closed so I couldn't go back and delete that part of it. Back to the...

Quadra 700 death chime with Powermac upgrade card enabled

I didn't tell anyone that it was cracked, I asked if it was. And then I edited my post as soon as I read it was chiming... The four diagonal lines into the corners of the package look very sharp on that yellow package compared to the blue one and it caught my eye. Honest mistake.

Quadra 700 death chime with Powermac upgrade card enabled

Yeah I skipped through the thread without reading it properly, and I'm tired, just ignore me :) Not the part about zapping the pram though - that's valid and is a thing with these apparently. In fact it's the one I bought from you that I had this issue with!

Quadra 700 death chime with Powermac upgrade card enabled

If you haven't done so yet, zap the pram... Do it a few times to make sure. If there was previously a card in the lower nubus slot it can prevent the PPC card from booting until you zap the pram. This is because any saved configuration data for that slot in the pram interferes with the...

A Word of Warning about IPv6...Don't be me lol

This is probably the root of the issue I had with my Cube: https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/g4-cube-becomes-unstable-when-ethernet-is-connected.38641/ I had assumed that it was a hardware level incompatibility, but ipv6 also makes sense as the router would have been set to prefer ipv6...
