    Beige G3

I "found" this in a pile of computer equipment outside the computing building at a local Uni. No idea of precise specs yet though as I haven't been able to power it up yet. I do, however, believe it to be a 233MHz model. In a couple of rather unusual points, both the RAM and HDD sled were left...

    Power Macintosh 4400/200 Clean Reinstall

I don't mind System 7 myself, it will always define the Classic OS to me. It was how I first saw the Mac OS in magazine screenshots and was on the first Mac I ever bought, an LC475. OS 8 and 9 always seem like half-assed efforts to me. Where MS were at least trying to drag Windows out of the 16...

    PowerMacintosh ONE/225

I didn't check LEM, but I saw no mention of it in the 5500 page at everymac. That AOL page was the only mention I could find of it anywhere in my (admittedly less than comprensive) Google searches. Assuming the badge is genuine then it would definitely be a keeper as it does seem quite rare.

    PowerMacintosh ONE/225

I'd never heard of it either, so I did some Googling and stumbled across this: http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/rrbp/maclistingbyprocessor.html I'm not going to vouch for teh accuracy of any of that information but given the evidence here, I'd imagine there is at least some truth in it...

    PowerMacintosh ONE/225

According to a few Google searches, the Power Macintosh ONE/225 was what the 5500/225 was labelled as in the UK educational market.

Local barebones Digital Audio $66 AU

You don't want to go overboard on the video front, not without considering the CPU. I have a flashed 9800 Pro in my DA and performance in even the most basic tests is pretty embarassing (In the OpenGL test in Xbench, for example. my GMA950 MacBook scores 8 times higher and my B&W G3 with its...

    G4 Digital Audio 533 Questions...

OK, so I'm typing this from within OS 9.2.2 on the other hard drive. The machine booted up fine and I'm looking at a 1024x768 desktop... with 256 colours. Looking around in the System Profiler seems to indicate that it thinks two displays are connected, one of which is at 1024x768 with 256...

    G4 Digital Audio 533 Questions...

I have 9.2.2 on a second hard drive (I don't have a 9.1 or 9.2 CD so I can't install it directly). I might try booting that up and seeing what reults I get.

    G4 Digital Audio 533 Questions...

I have a flashed PC Radeon 9800 Pro in my Digital Audio. I had to use the 64k reduced ROM but after taping over pins 3 and 11 on the AGP connector it booted straight up (OS X 10.4.10 was on the hard drive that was in it at the time but 10.4.6 installed on the new HDD without a hitch). At first I...

Local barebones Digital Audio $66 AU

I put a DVR-112 in mine. Took a bit of doing to get it in there (drive is shorter than normal and the shield cage wouldn't go in far enough so I had to reverse the power cables to make it all fit right) but it works great. It even boots off it.

    Another Freecycle conquest

The 7300 has virtually the same logic board as the 7600. The only difference is the 7300 lacks the A/V circuitry. All the pads are there, it was just never installed as a cost-cutting measure

    Another Freecycle conquest

Nah, I don't think it's that. The 7600 is acting like it has a dead PRAM battery (it'll chime and then nothing). I have a bad feeling it's lobo trouble (I found it in a dumpster and the case was in pretty bad shape) but I want to eliminate every other possibility first. The 7300/180 booted right...

    Another Freecycle conquest

This time a 7300/180. Came with an AppleDesign keyboard (I kind of like this. Same layout as the Extended/Extended II but without the annoying clicky clacky nonsense), ADB II mouse and 17" Multiple Scan display. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, I'm thinking of using it to investigate...

    G4 Digital Audio 533 Questions...

I finally got off my ass and got mine running today. Modifying the video card went smoother than I was expecting. Most of the troubles I had were down to the donor machine acting cranky (it has a VIA board in it so, uh, yeah...). Was a relief when it worked right off the the bat. I'm still...

    G4 Digital Audio 533 Questions...

I've spent about AUD$380 (USD$348) on mine so far. In addition to the machine itself (AUD$118, most of that was shipping from one side of the country to the other) I bought a faster CPU, Apple Pro keyboard and mouse, a replacement HDD carrier (the machine had had its original HDD removed and...

Best video upgrade for a G4 Gigabit Ethernet w/AGP

I bought a (PC) 9800 Pro for my Digital Audio. It seemed the easiest way to get both Quartz Extreme and Core Image (I'm not exactly sure how useful the latter is yet - I can live without such things as the dashboard ripple - but it seemed like something worth having) and didn't completely suck...

    pci logic boards query

I combined a 7300 and a 7600 into one machine a while back. It hasn't worked reliably since (it has a little trouble booting up. You'll hear the chime and then nothing) but I have no idea if that's the logic board or something else :/
