I got given three Powerbook Duos today! On the downside, I tested the 2300 and the power adaptor popped and smoke came out..  The same happened with a different adaptor and a 280....  Any ideas?  I have a third adaptor and I don't want it to die... Do Duo Power supplies readily die?? My power...

There is a video card in the PDS slot... still get no life other than the light and fan. I would now assume that its the capacitors? 

Will try that - the PRAM battery was removed by me when I received the machine. I'm trying to find my charged PRAM batteries to try a working one. I wasn't aware that any of the PPC macs were dependent upon PRAM batteries - though the 8100 was the earliest PPC.

I think there is a graphics card already in the PDS slot. I have nubus cards and spare SCSI Harddrives so I can troubleshoot.

Hi All - I've inhertiatd what seems to be a non working 8100/110 - the PSU seems to be fine, but it does not boot. Turning it on by the keyboard or to he power switch lights up the LED, but there is no sound, no video and the hard drives do not read like they are booting (they simply spin up)...

I've tried two different logic boards - one which supposedly is definitely working.  There was no PRAM battery installed at all - I have a flat one. Is the battery essential for boot? 

Hi all -  I've just received an LC 630 and it seems completely dead - when its plugged in and switched on from either the keyboard or the switch it does nothing...  Any ideas (like is there some trick with PRAM batteries or something?) 

I love my Centris 650... Mine had a dead HD as well when I got it :p   Its good that yours has a ethernet card. They can get online quite easily (for simple websites) :)

I'm not sure why you felt the need to post part of a private message here. Yes currently Uni is EXTREMELY time consuming/intense/busy for me at the moment and funnily enough I don't have time to locate the Quadra 605 in the garage to test varying combinations of RAM to see if it was RAM problem...

I think I've tried different combinations of RAM, and I know its not a hard drive problem as it doesn't have a hard drive ( I don't get any video out anyway to check for the flashing floppy) I will check when uni is not as intense :p  

I believe I have done that... but I might not have :p Will give it a try :)

My Quadra 605 chimes, then death chimes a few seconds later.... I assume its the caps, I have given the board a wash but it hasn't fixed erecting.  I'm very unskilled at soldering, so hopefully I'll have someone repair it for me :p   My LC 475 works but the sound is very quiet so it also need...
