Does this sound like a reasonable price?

Shipping an SE from out of town could easily cost more than the machine itself, and then you hope that it doesn't get destroyed in transit.

Does this sound like a reasonable price?

eBay price varies a lot depending on whether the goods need to be shipped, and how far. Whereas the Craiglist price is likely to be negotiable, especially if OP shows up with cash in hand. Regarding SE/30 and other "ultimate" machines: Never forget that they're still just as obsolete :p

    Recapping mac classic problem

Multimeter is the wrong tool: You want a capacitor ESR meter specifically designed for in-circuit testing. Else just assume that the surface mount electrolytic capacitors all need replacing, because when we're talking Classic/Classic II/Portable, they likely do.

Does this sound like a reasonable price?

Like beauty, value is in the eye of the beholder! Yes, I can remember literally picking up SE/30s from someone's trash, but this was 20+ years ago. Today, when stuff comes up for sale, it might be located in a distant part of the country, or part of an all-or-nothing storage unit cleaning. So...

    Upgrades for 24" 2007 iMac

IIRC, it actually can handle 6 GB of RAM.

    25,000mAh PowerBook 1xx battery

You can do that with chargers specifically designed for the purpose, and it's a great way to squeeze some extra life out of those batteries, though the recharged batteries tend to be kinda weak, and no promises that they won't eventually leak, as internal pressure builds up.

Color Classic - no signs of life

Do you have a battery installed? I think some models won't start without one, IDK if CC is one of them.

High Tech: Window to the Future 1985 coffee table book!

Scored this book today. Initially passed on it, figuring that it'd be too Sun Microsystems-specific for me, but it turns out to be more of a snapshot of Silicon Valley life in the early 1980s. Cover is decorated with epoxy-encapsulated AMD AM8052 cathode ray tube (!) controller, surrounded by a...

    Recapping a Connectix Quickcam

Wondering if you somehow introduced DC offset into your audio input? On the left is your audio sample. On the right is a normal, albeit 2-channel audio track.

    Macintosh Portable repair attempt

What are you using as a power supply? The original Portable AC adapter doesn't provide enough current to run the Portable unless a good battery is installed.

Mac Plus - Identify this Memory Expansion

Pretty much. I don't remember what 1 MB SIMMs cost in the 1980s, except that they were serious money.

    CC's Latest...

I was digging through my archives and found a photo of my JVC! Looks halfway decent in this photo IMO, because I had taken the time to clean off years of grime and neglect, but I'm pretty sure it would have been a pretty big job to properly restore.

    CC's Latest...

Well it is your thread, so if you say it counts, it counts! A number of years ago, I gave away a big JVC: Maybe one of the flagship models from when boomboxes were king. Because it was a resto project that seemed like it was going to take awhile, I needed to vacate my apartment, had gotten the...

    PowerBook 170 with e-ink screen

Some LCDs are known to become discolored, even "coffee stained" with age. In one such instance, I replaced the fluorescent (CCFL) backlight tube, but this did not solve the problem, so perhaps the actual source of discoloration lay elsewhere. More recently, I dealt with a very faded LCD, and it...

    Fanny Mac Rehab?

Got photos? If the switch is clear plastic, and it glows orange or green, it probably contains a 1/2 NE-2 neon bulb. Not really designed for bulb replacement, but it's usually not too hard once you remove the switch from whatever it's mounted in. Last time I re-lamped a switch, I had to use a...

Infocom Trinity - How to make a disk that is playable on Macintosh 512K

How much free space is available on that floppy disk, is it a genuine 400/800K floppy, and is it unlocked? For the sake of conserving memory, I wonder if it would make a difference if you set Trinity as the startup item, rather than Finder. Been so long since I played in that way that I don't...

What I learned fiddling with CRT magnets...

Even if you could tweak to perfection, when you move the computer to a different geographical location, it's probably going to be off again because that stuff is affected by the earth's magnetic field. Some late CRT-era monitors had great controls for adjusting geometry, which could all be done...

    mac portable replacement power cord

Can't imagine why it wouldn't work, as long as care is taken to ensure correct polarity of the plug, and max current is limited to some reasonable value.

Macintosh Plus found on side of road

Wow! I am not exaggerating when I say that the last time I made dumpster / curb finds like that was in the 1990s.

    Good first Apple II?

Don’t overlook disk-emulator products as an alternative to real floppy disks, particularly as floppies were never meant to last forever.
