I found something suspicious in my ROM socket (see photo). the board chimes and boots fine but I get no video at all - total blackout. I've been going through potential issues in the video circuit. Is it possible that this is the cause?
I'm trying to understand video issues more clearly.
I have an SE/30 board and it chimes and seems to boot, but there is no video output. Occasional static, but usually just completely dark. No simasimac just a blackout with occassional static (see attached video).
It is my understanding that if...
I was wondering if there was a best practice for this? How common is it for this to cause continuity issues on the board? i've checked a few and so far no problems.
Maybe I'm late to the party but this thing has completely amazed me today. Not trying to advertise any specific microscope as I'm sure there are comparable ones. I just was not aware this kind of tool was available this cheap...
just tested an SE 30 board with an issue issue I have not seen before.
The board itself looks very clean. I took out the 1989 battery so that might be a clue that nobody has worked on it before.
Capacitors show very little signs of leakage and the chips don't look corroded.
Now the bad news...
Excited to have a second SE30 on the way. I went ahead and got this one because -
The case looks to be in great shape.
It does not "appear" to be battery bombed. You can zoom in on the profile pics and at least see that the chassis by the battery appears to be spotless.
The video issue might...
I'm having a specific issue with one of my floppy drives (see attached video). If anybody would know the cause, I would really appreciate the help. Thanks for any insight.
Hi, I am new to networking compact Macs with localtalk. I have installed network software installer 1.4.4 and MacTCP 2.0.6 on both an SE and SE/30.
I've connected a printer cable between both printer ports. I was able to configure addresses but for some reason, there is no AppleTalk icon in the...
Feels great to look down at that evil lithium battery and get it the heck out after 30+ years before inevitable disaster.
- 25v Polymer Tantalum Caps
- New Radial Caps
- Rominator II
- 128mb RAM (originally 2mb)
- CR2032 Battery
- BlueSCSI v.2
I think that's all I can do ??
Hi, Although I've got everything (logic, analog and psu boards) recapped and working properly, I noticed that the Focus potentiometer on the analog board does nothing. The screen is reasonably in focus but I'm still wondering if this is something I can fix? Possibly as simple as a resistor on...
I apologize if this has been covered somewhere but I'm having a heck of a time finding good newbie advice for getting them to talk to each other.
Is this something that can be done with localtalk/Appletalk with a simple serial connection (just the two computers) or does it require phonenet...
How can I make my SE (System 6.0.8) speak text? Ideally in the classic "sure is great to get out of that bag" voice. I've tried MacinTalk and SmoothTalker but the voices are not great in my opinion. Thanks.
I'm planning to upgrade an SE to 4MB but this board has the jumper on a daughter card, apparently with R35 and R36... am I just supposed to just remove the jumper or do I need to remove these resistors also? Thanks.
First, I want say that everyone should discharge CRTs any time you're getting into the analog board and CRT areas. It's simple and makes no sense not to.
But I noticed something curious working on 3 SE's for the last 6 months or so.
I've never gotten even a tiny spark at all even when...
