the best web browser for 68kmacs

I remember setting up Netscape 2.0.2 to use a RAM disk as a disk cache. Having images and pages cached in RAM really improved performance, I guess a bit like the SSD's of today. Later, I found an application called AppDisk which worked even better as the moment I quit, I regained all the lost RAM.

    LC630 compact flash issues

Yeah, I'd really dig a full 040 in this here rig, when I find one and have the dollars, I'll fit it. I have come to my senses and realised that the 80GB IDE drive works quite well and if it ain't broke don't fix it. Cheers and thanks for all the advice.

    LC630 compact flash issues

G'day So I've got this Apple LC630 and have upgraded the memory to 36MB. I also put in an 80GB drive and while great in terms of storage, I want to see system performance with a compact flash card. I got the adapter (just a cheapie from china) and a 512MB card, hooked it all up, bus set to...

    Dual 867Mhz G4 MDD

I agree that upgrading the RAM is not an absolute necessity whilst it is running OS 9 I did briefly install OS X 10.4.11 and it was quite snappy, but my software library is mostly classic based. Video-capture card would be cool, but I've currently set up my Pismo PowerBook with a PCMCIA...

    Quadra 660AV

The Centris 660av was my first 68k mac. Long since gone. Lamented. I enjoyed its PlainTalk capabilities, although I remember it worked better with an American accent ;) I fired up AppleScript once and made some custom plaintalk scripts. I also remember there being a sound extension, the...

HDD Caddy for an older powerbook?

G'day. I've been contemplating a SATA HDD for my Pismo PowerBook. I'm wondering if anyone knows if one of these: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281011561513?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 will work? I have a DVD drive, but I've got a spare module and want to whack one of...

    Mac OS 9 & SSDs?

I recently installed in a 32GB IDE Transcend drive into my Pismo 500 I started up with Mac OS X 10.4, fired up disk utility Initialized (HFS+) and partitioned the drive in two. Then I installed Mac OS 9. Restart-option key The system boots quickly and silently. The only issue I do have is...

    too much for one weekend!

I hear you on that one. I recently acquired a new in box LC630 (like Christmas!) from the same ebay seller. I don't think I'd get anywhere near as much pleasure from it if I'd just let it sit in the box. Only thing with my LC630 is that it lacks a full 040, which is odd because my previous one...

    Conquest: Powermac 9600

Yes, disk caching software it is. For Mac OS 7.1.2 it will improve performance for 68k apps (how many applications for 7.1.2 were PPC native?), particularly on nubus machines. This seller on ebay has a copy if you are interested...

Amazing the difference a few hundred megahertz will make! Thanks for going to the effort of showing us the difference in speed between the two processors. Do you think that the speed doubler software would rev things up more?
