Neat! Econet has always fascinated me - it seems very LocalTalk-ish in concept.

A lot of my early computer-bothering was done on Acorn machines at school back in New Zealand. I haven't touched an ARM Acorn machine in years, but I still have a great fondness for them. Every once in a while I think about trying to find one again, but now that I live in the States it's a little bit harder!

Yeah, LocalTalk feels a lot like Econet 2.0: technically very similar but needing much less infrastructure, and with a much simpler user experience. It's interesting stuff. Some folks on the stardot forums made an Econet hat and corresponding software suite for an r-pi, so I use that to bridge to my fileserver, which is rather cool. And now someone's made a replica econet module for the A4! Which is even cooler.

Yeah, I could definitely see that. Does the Pi hat act as a clock box as well?

I bought a Master 128 a while ago and have kitted it out with a few Stardot hardware projects (a PiTubeDirect and a Pi1Mhz). Always gives me a chuckle, having not just one, but two ARM processors hanging off the machine that brought ARM into the world :)

Yup! It's pretty much all you need to run a small econet network in a box. Or on a board, at least. Massively lowers the amount of effort required to get started, it's a great little thing. Got a master 128 here too, which also talks to it :-D and yes, the ludicrously fast ARM tube copro makes me giggle. Very silly. Though I haven't got a Pi1MHz - what does that actually do other than be on the 1MHz bus?

The big thing the Pi1MHz can do is emulate a SCSI controller with a disc attached. With a big ADFS volume and the Lancaster Assembler, it's lovely for doing 6502 development.

It can also emulate the Music 5000 wavetable synth, which is a fascinating device with even more fascinating software (have you ever looked at DAW software and thought "I wish that it was in Forth?" Well, look no further!)

Oh, somehow I missed that it emulated the music 5000! Yes, the whole thing being in Forth is one of those wonderfully bonkers things you just couldn't do now...

@GRudolf94 modulate your jelliness: this is not a good laptop. Interesting, yes, but also infuriating...
