Seriously impressive work 🙌 I wish I had the courage to join in, but this is way, way over my head. I have just done a bit of work on a recently acquired Macintosh Plus and that was already at the limit of my skill set.
Thanks, that is great to hear. It took me two hours (with preparation) to get the diode mod on, so anything more will take substantial time and probably better tooling than I have, in particular for removing old solder. For now it runs absolutely fine, even if it makes some slight noises when...
What about the Mac Plus? I recently got a 1MB Mac Plus that I have been working on a bit (see this thread Macintosh Plus odds and ends ). As far as I can tell it is an intermediate model, neither early nor late (ROM B and no text on the front of the machine, only a coloured Apple logo). With...
I found this article through Wikipedia and it states that the Mac Plus will simply boot according to the SCSI IDs with the highest number first. That is also my experience booting off the BlueSCSI SD card. There is probably a trick there with removing "system" from a higher numbered drive, but...
I pulled the case apart before I left home this morning and made the photo. I think it is clear that the grove has eroded to the point that it won't fasten properly anymore. I wonder if applying some glue before screwing it back together next time would rethread it? Using epoxy glue or something...
I have the 4.5 Volt battery installed (using an adapter) and the clock is working between powering off and on so I assume that part is working. There may be some BlueSCSI setting that I am ignoring, so will have a look there.
Wow, that would be wonderful. I will dig out what I have and am really keen to see what is on them. Will get back to you sometime this week. There is nothing on there that is personal except for my poor coding, so feel free to have a peek.
Unfortunately I have lost all my work through the mists of time, although I recently found a few microdrives laying around at my brother's. But sadly the QL itself is long gone. Started out with Programming the Z80 (very good introduction) after cutting my teeth with BASIC. I wrote my own editor...
Somehow the Startup Disk is not supported with BlueSCSI, that goes for both 7.1 and 7.5.5. Perhaps it is something to do with the way BlueSCSI emulates a SCSI drive and Startup Disk not being able to write something to an actual drive. Maybe partitioning would be able to do the trick, I will...
Yep, got that done this morning. Due to the way the BlueSCSI handles file names on the SD card the Mac started with 7.1 image. Copied the files across and can happily say it is completely working. You are right about 7.1 being a whole lot quicker and also uses less memory to boot. I will start...
I managed to get Basilisk II working on my 14" M2 Pro so will first attempt to load the image there and then transfer it across to the SD card that goes inside the BlueSCSI. I am quite honestly blown away how somebody can make that kind of hardware based on a Pico board. Not being a hardware...
Thanks for the recommendation, I will definitely try that. I haven't yet figured out how to multi-boot with the BlueSCSI and I am learning as I am going with the Mac Plus and the older system software. I have worked with computers ever since my brother and I bought a ZX81 when it came out (and...
I will probably open it again in a few days and take a photo then. The Mac is now sitting all closed up and taking it apart again and again feels like I am increasing the chances of breaking something. It probably isn't, but everything feels rather fragile on the inside.
If you would come...
