The machine was a lost case. I started to clean the motherboard with a toothbrush, and chips fell off. Many legs on the SCSI controller chip (I think) had also been eaten away by the acid.
I salvaged the PSU, the floppy and the fan. Might come in handy some day :-)
Hi,
I rescued a Mac IIsi today. I opened it up, and it is missing its hard drive. The battery has also leaked, corroded some areas here and there on the motherboard. A small SMD cap near the battery also fell off, but it is not broken, so maybe after the cleanup, I can solder it back on. It...
Yeah, I guess I will just leave it as it is now. There is very little airflow over that particular heatsink (It is under the Apple logo under the screen). I guess this is an example of an odd design.
It is running stable, and if I put my finger on the heatsink it does not feel "80 deg c" hot. Maybe the internal die temperature is 80, or maybe as you say, the reporting is actually wrong.
Thanks for the answers :-)
Hi,
It's clean inside, and I applied new cooling paste to the chipset cooler already. Yes, I believe Memory Controller is the Apple word for chipset.
Maybe it is supposed to be this hot, but I wonder if it is healthy for it in the long run. The machine seems very little use because of this.
Hi,
A while ago I got myself a G5, which required a reflow of the GPU. I did that, and now the machine works just fine.
I have one concern though. The "Memory Controller" has a very high operating temp. We're talking close to 80c and even more. At least that is the temp reported by Temperature...
Nice! I have a Dual 2Ghz G5 that I liberated from the ewaste, and all it needed was a graphics card (Someone had pulled the card before disposing of the machine)
I flashed a PC card so that it would work in the G5, and the machine booted on the first try. It had 2 GB of ram in it when I found...
yes, I will remove it and see what happens. I did not try that. My mistake :-)
Edit: I found a spare PRAM battery that I saved from a dead eMac a few years ago. Succes, it booted right up :-)
See the picture below. It's running 7.5
I am having some difficulties with my Powermac 6100. It does the what the below says, and then it does nothing more.
It chimes, but goes no further. No video output (The CRT remains in standby)
I have fiddled around with the DIP-switch on the Mac-to-VGA adapter, but it does not make a...
An update: The Pismo is now happily running Tiger. I burned a new copy on a DVD and it installes just fine on the first try.
I am posting this from it :-) I gave it a good cleaning, and nearly all the branding are gone.
The screen is also perfect, the reason for the dark lower section was...
Update:
I got the parts I needed from beachycove (Thanks!!!!) and booted the machine with a generic VGA monitor connected.

Update:
Tested the machine with a monitor now. It boots into OS 9. A lot of personal data, so I guess a reinstall would be the right thing to do.
Does anybody know what software I need to install on it to make use of the PC card? It had a 1 GB disk image file on it, but I could not figure out...
I had this problem with a TiBook. It was the ATI graphics chip. Apply pressure on it, and the lockup problem went away. I reflowed it twice with a heatgun. The issue got better, but still locked up if you slightly twisted the casing.
I eventually replaced the motherboard with another one I...
