Nah, I just program stuff that makes car parts. If you tell it to go somewhere, it WILL, even if that means slamming itself into something very hard. I've managed to destroy a ballscrew, a spindle, and several diamond tools. Not too bad for five years. G54 G0 G64 X0 Y0 Z-140 *KABLAM!!*
Hrmm... in my field, software has an immense effect on hardware. A programming error I made destroyed a $30,000 piece of hardware once. I've also broken many smaller things worth a total of over $10,000.
But on consumer electronics, generally not. :p
Just got a 512MB module for my MBP for free from a friend who upgraded her peecee laptop... now I have 1.5GB... Definitely an improvement! Now I can run parallels and open Q-DAS without everything slowing to a crawl. [8D]
yeah, i think it's dead again... I'm out on the road for work until Thursday... then I actually have time off this year for christmas (unlike last year...)... so I'll revamp things then.
I'm almost certain that you have a dead battery. My PM6100 has the same symptoms when its PRAM battery dies. To test this, power it on and wait for the chime, then turn it off and then back on immediately. The machine should continue booting after doing this.
Good luck! :D
I doubt the motherboards are dying from overheating. I even had an air conditioner running in the shed over the summer to keep that under control (kept it around 72-78ºF). It looks like the caps are starting to ooze just from age. The 603e is a cool running processor anyhow--- cooler than the...
the server is an old Powermac 5400, but I am in the process of moving it to a beige G3 (G4 733mhz upgrade) with a 120gb SATA hard drive. The 5400's are starting to fail frequently, though I have 10 spare motherboards left. ::) They are nice because the AIO design doesn't take up much...
I finally recovered from the... crash? When I lost power to the shed for a week, the non-graceful shutdown seemed to kill the server... I have a new motherboard in it now and it seems to be OK.
Let me know of any issues
Sorry :-/
I actually have one of those chip puller tools, and like everything else, the tool made for the job works the best. :p
Otherwise, in a pinch I use a tiny screwdriver and slowly pry around the processor until it pops out.
Now on overclocking... I have had a Quadra 605 with a full '040/25...
Glad to see that it has been working :D
I'll be taking it down today or tomorrow to hook up my Ghetto UPS system to it. The one I had at the old location needs to be modified (longer 12v battery wiring) to make it work at my place. I also need to change some wiring around for the...
I just finished relocating the server from my parents' place to my residence.... I have not archived the data yet, but plan to do so before this weekend---- so it will be up and down (that is... if it's up at all)
Give the server a try, PM me if it's not working. I believe everything is good...
Yay!
Sucks that we had to do another nuke 'n pave, but at least we're back!
:)
My part of the deal is still crapped out though. I'll try some more stuff with the hotline server, such as a mobo/NIC change and a fresh OS install... and I'm also going to do a full HDD backup on that while i'm...
