Mac SE/30 restoration (and mild mod plans)

Hmm, in that screenshot, it doesn't seem to be working. Maybe you just need to go into the control panel and switch from 24-bit to 32-bit mode?

Mac SE/30 restoration (and mild mod plans)

Nice work. Better get MODE32 or a new ROM so you can use all that RAM! The recap should really be a high priority. Cap leakage wreaks such havoc on these boards.

SIMM 'bank clips' for broken plastic retention clips

Absolutely. I will post the model here and Thingiverse, as well as the original design files for anyone who may want to make modifications. I am confident that this is well within my 3D modeling capabilities, and I should be able to turn it around in a week or less. I am also happy to send you...

Macintosh SE/30 logicboard recreation (thread revival)

I know Bolle has mentioned that "Certain low power ATF16V8B don't work." I assume this refers to the ATF16V8BQL. Has anyone tried any of the half or quarter-power GAL16V8s or PALCE16V8s? Just wondering if it might be possible to reduce the heat generated by the PALs.

SEthernet and SEthernet/30: A new take on PDS Ethernet

I believe later SEs have the window in the metal chassis for a vertical PDS card; the same as an SE/30, basically. If you have one of those, you could build your Performer with a wire-wrap female PDS connector like this one, then build the SEthernet with a right-angle male PDS connector so it...

Sourcing Legit MC68882 FPUs - Data

Rolled the dice on eBay on one that looked like it might be legit, and this is what showed up. Total fake. Bummer.

    SE/30 ROM Socket Question

I think you may have gotten very lucky here. That appears to be pin 30, which is a ground. There are two other grounds on the connector, on pins 10 and 64. 30 and 64 are tied together, at least on the factory SIMM that I tested, so as long as pin 64 is good, you should be fine without pin 30.

Wow! I would love to get one of those tools to design a replica for 3D printing.

    Nostalgia PC Build

When I figured out what you were doing, and saw all the cutting, I thought "this guy is either brilliant or insane." After seeing the finished product, I vote brilliant. Nicely done.

    Troubleshooting GLUE, C32M, and C16M

Interesting. The machine should still boot in that condition though, shouldn't it? Seems to me that the time just wouldn't advance.

    Troubleshooting GLUE, C32M, and C16M

Thanks for the info. You are using the W65C22N? I know that other reloaded board builders have had success with it; yours is the first report I've heard of it not working. What kind of problems did you have?

    SE/30 Board Mystery Issue

You'll get used to it ;) Not hard. New/NOS chips can be programmed to replace them.

    Katheryn's Macintosh SE/30 saga

This is the modern replacement for the DIP parts. PLCC is the same part, just different package: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/microchip-technology/ATF16V8B-15PU/1118926 You can still find some of the old PAL16 parts from MMI and Lattice around, but they have been discontinued for a...
