    Mac LC prototype ROM

Exactly what chips would I need, or better yet, is there anyone here that could burn me a set? I tried to 'fix' the broken legs on the one ROM, but they were eaten away right up to the chip itself.

    Mac LC prototype ROM

This is very cool! I have one with a slightly later dated ROM - but one of the ROM's is buggered due to a nice battery explosion taking out 3 of the pins. The ROM is Rex v8 1.0A3 9/22/90. Perhaps I can burn the dump above into 4 new chips and run the slightly older ROM.

    Discharging a CRT - video

Great vid - thanks for sharing @Alex.  I have always been looking for the official tool that I used to use in the Apple Canada service shop, but they are hard to find.  This video takes away some of the apprehension of building my own.  Cheers!

    IIgs Prototype

Small update here to my unit with the 1985 date.  I popped out a ROM OO 342-0077-A from a production IIgs that I have and popped it into the empty ROM slot of this proto - IT LIVES!  Speaker works but makes a lot of static.  However, there is life - at least in boating up.  Now, if I could only...

Unearthed my Mac 128k (maybe Fat Mac, not sure) and discovered some fascinating docs from the early Mac era

Very cool indeed Hux!  I was wondering... could you please post more pix of the unit itself?  Interested in seeing the bottom and rear. Have you dated this by serial number yet? how old is the OS disks? thanks

    Early Mac LC proto?

So, I got around to troubleshooting the one of my two LC protos that powers on, but only gives a strange video on screen.  The battery had blown up on the board, and fried one of the ROM chips - at least the pins are affected!  Figures - one of the 4 pictured below - can you tell which one?  The...

    IIgs Prototype

Thanks for the feedback everyone.  The mystery with this unit here is that, contrary to all else posted in this forum and found online (whose boards have a 1986 date), this one of mine has a 1985 - so pre-Vegas units, for sure.  I find details of development of the IIgs sketch at best online...

    IIgs Prototype

I know that this thread is old, but I thought that I had better chime in too.  I have a real head scratcher then - a IIe case, a IIgs board within.  ROM is missing completely.  The Board is marked with the SKA321-03 but with a 1985 date!  Also, the board is blue!  The thing powers on and shows...

Different Macintosh in Original User Guide?

The only markings were on the back - 100036, as pictured above.  jraust - would really love to see pix of your unit in here.  I thought that I had the only 2 that were known about.

    Early Mac LC proto?

I have had these things for years.  Mine came from the warehouse clear out from Apple Canada.  I worked there in the late 90's.  They were clearing out all kinds of stuff, and I decided to grab it all (for a fair lot price) in hopes of one day making a museum.  Life happened, so the museum did...

    Early Mac LC proto?

This is not a definitive photo comparison between proto and production, as I think there is one other proto board in between these.  I have two LC proto's that have the reset button (where the production does not), but the config of VRAM and RAM and VSLU of what is the production board pictured...

Help revive an Original Macintosh Prototype

Dog Cow - thanks for the expert confirmation  of the ROM - helps round out the history and description of these machines.  Not sure how to take your other comments about "end up in the hands of people who are not equipped", etc.  This is why I have come to this forum, and why the other...

Different Macintosh in Original User Guide?

olePigeon, thanks for chiming in.  Information I gathered from emails exchanged with Jerry Manock, who was the case designer, confirmed that these were likely just after the Twiggy and just when they started to use the Sony drives.  Manock stated to me that there were likely soft tooled, just...

Help revive an Original Macintosh Prototype

Dog Cow - thanks for the info.  Now to really get together some old Mac's and 400K floppies!  Have to get MacsBugs installed on one with a system.  Maybe too, I can boot from the internal floppy with the system I have, then run an external floppy with MacsBugs, and CopyROM (thanks @LaPorta) for...
