    Internet on older macs

Yes, it turns out the internet on a vintage Mac isn’t much fun.

    LC 475, I don't know what I'm looking at

    So, it’s a ROM slot.

Even with 128mb of memory the test on that Mac won’t take long. There may be other ways to disable the test without needing a new ROM.

    LC 475, I don't know what I'm looking at

That looks like a ROM slot. You have ROMs already soldiered on the LB but that board can deactivate them and use a ROM SIMM

Can't identify part that fell out of my SE/30

Foil has been in supermarkets for years, but if you can’t find any Amazon has some.

USB/FW capture card for PowerPC Macs?

I liked firewire capture devices as opposed to USB ones of the time of their release back then. Firewire devices on a Mac back then captured in DV or MP4 format in which the former can take up several gigabytes of space for small amount of content and the latter have synch issues with audio on...

Seeking advice on final resolution with eBay seller.

Yea, if he has an eBay store you can report to Better Business Bureau too.

Seeking advice on final resolution with eBay seller.

The seller shouldn’t have spent the money you sent until the auction is final. That way he would be able to give you a 2/3 refund from what you sent. He probably had your payment spent within the hour you sent it. Do not send him any more money because this will encourage him to repeat this...

Sharing a Mac Plus SCSI2SD with other Macs

One thing I've noticed is Mac OS 8 and higher tends to un-bless System 6 system folders. In the future if this happens you may only need to bless your system folder and then you'll be able to boot from it again.

    The "most powerful" 68000-only Mac?

When I was looking at the Macintosh Portable specs on EveryMac it states “This model has a 32-bit processor but a 16-bit data path”. So I just thought maybe it can do 32 bit mode. Also just out of curiosity, with over 5 MB of RAM, could a Portable use OpenTransport?

    The "most powerful" 68000-only Mac?

Can a Portable Macintosh be used in 32 bit mode or just 24 bit mode like the rest? It's amazing how much RAM you have in that one. A bootable SSW 6.0.8 RAM disk must be really fast and convenient. Can the SCSI drive be interleved? When you say "most powerful", IMO the "most compatible for its...

System 7.5.5 on Mac Plus and HD20

Also, going from Mac System Software 6 to System 7 on these compact 68000 Macs was evidently a very expensive upgrade considering the need for all of this hardware and memory in 1990's. The cost of SCSI devices, connectors, cables and memory was too high for many. The release of System 7 wasn't...

    Internet on older macs

I used to do this too until I began checking the date on the thread before posting. Sometimes it’s worth resurrecting old threads for modern input. I have recently graduated from the intrigue of getting vintage devices on the internet. I created my own internal intranet for my vintage devices...
