PowerBook G4 Hard Drive Noises + and no boot chime!

Thankyou for your responses. I have put in some extra RAM (1 gig), but the PowerBook was still chiming since the upgrade until just recently. And thanks, I will be sure to check out MacTalk!

Weird IE Phishing warning on one topic

Yes, a reasonable individual might think this. But it's a conspiracy. Microsoft is trying to prevent thoughtcrime from within its suppressed user base. Accessing a page such as that constitutes a major blaspheme against Big Brother. It will be stopped.

    Hello from a noob

Welcome to the forum, Madcrow! I don't own any 68k hardware either, unfortunately... but I have an iMac G3 than runs OS9 so I'm happy for now. I think the towers are a little easier to upgrade, etc. than the compact classic models. The Quadra would be a good choice -- it's a great machine.

PowerBook G4 Hard Drive Noises + and no boot chime!

Thankyou for your response! Would I be needing my hardware test CD-Rom for this, or can it be done with regular MacOSX utilities?

    What PowerBook do I want?

How about a PowerBook G3? That way, you'll be able to use a newer OS and printer with it. I have often run into a few issues with older systems and hardware/ software compatibility.

PowerBook G4 Hard Drive Noises + and no boot chime!

Well, the title says it all, really... I have a sneaky suspicion that there's something wrong with my PowerBook. It boots without chiming (I have reset the PRAM to no avail), and the hard disk has become quite noisy. Trying to get it running after sleep is also an issue -- it just won't budge...

    I'm new around here...

I'm from Melbourne. Yes, CC's seem to be getting scarce; I mostly see Mac Pluses and Classic II's laying around.

Salute! A shame, I know. We had entire computer labs full of these P275's (but mostly P250's), which I suppose must have been dumped in landfill when they became obsolete. Are they really that rare? My word. I'm sure there's at least one soul in the Southern Hemisphere who owns one... right?

Happy Tenth to the B/W G3!

Yes, much cooler and quieter. The fans needed to cool a G4 tend to be very loud. The processor gets extremely hot. Ever listened to an eMac? My word, they must have borrowed that fan from a Hoover or something.

Thank you, wackymacs! To answer your question, I mostly specialise in collecting somewhat obscure punk rock records -- so I have a few gems in that regard (notably "Atomizer" by a Chicago band called Big Black); sometimes I find some other eclectic and cool things to snatch up as well. I have...

    Color Classic style family

I came across a Performa 580 that was being used as a display computer in a furniture store a while back. To me, it was truely tiny. I'd always imagined it to be a monster of a machine. So, I do beg to differ!

    I'm new around here...

Hello all! My name is Miel and I'm a Mac addict. I go back a little with the Macintosh. I had my first taste in third grade with a Colour Classic II (Performa 275). I also remember when the first-generation iMac was introduced and how dearly I wanted a Tangerine. As it happened, I never got...
