@David Cook thanks again for this; I had an SE30 with similar vertical lines even after a recap. I toned out UE8 and found a broken trace from pin 14 of UE8 (VID7) to pin 23 of UC6. a simple bodge and all good now! :)
yup, was gonna put a resistor inline to get it closer to 63 ohms. I just could not find a speaker with similar dimensions at 63 ohms. Heck, couldn't even really find anything at 63 ohms! lol!
Ran across this thread looking for a replacement speaker for an SE/30 and unfortunately MacEffects is out of their speaker. So I ran across this model: Same Sky GA0576M. It looks similar to the MacEffects one and appears to physically fit according to dimensions. Shipping is more than the item...
This is good advice. I accidentally dropped a small bit of solder on the board of an Apple CD-SC when recapping and bridged some contacts. Took FOREVER to find. So it does happen!
this is timely as I picked up a cheap se/30 that works fine except for vertical lines like this. still need to pull the caps, but will check traces around UE8 too. thanks for the info!
With so much invested in your SE/30, why not keep it and keep tricking it out and getting rid of another machine, maybe something in storage that you never use or have no personal attachment to?
Just hooked-up a RaSCSI to the external SCSI bus and booted a 6.0.8 image and had the exact same symptom: system locks-up when desktop is loaded. ERG! So I'm going to rule-out anything with the SWIM for now.
Well, after a thorough cleaning (w/scrubbing), I still have the same problem. Boots to desktop and then freezes. Tried with a System 6.0.5 floppy and real FDD connect and same thing. There's no electrolytic capacitors near the SCC, so assuming that IC works, maybe there's a damaged...
