I have a 8500 with a G4 carrier ZIF..that if you boot from an external drive without the XLR software all I get is a grey screen. Restart several times it will boot up. But when you boot back to the 8500 drive nothing but grey screen. Ive had to swap out to a 604 card before to get it to...
Did you say you got a G3 card in the machine. That takes a peice of software to run and if the HD is messed up nothings going to happen. Put the 604 cpu back in try to boot from a OS cd. You should make shure the Dimms are the same voltage. Not all 168 pin dimms are the same.
Yes I used an old full size syquest box and put an Apple CD rom drive in it,the small ones will hold a scsi hard drive. I used an old HP usb external burner box and changed the CDRW to one a Mac will reconize.
The very first beige G3 I had would not lite up the screen(VGA) with out
the 4mb stick under OS9. Honest...I had to buy one to get the machine to work.
ReallyCool Dude! Talk like that got me almost ran off another fourm. The
G5 Intel Elite would tell you to kick that crap to the curb like they
did me. I say stick it to the man and rock that puppy.
Those beige G3 drives had issues when new, they have under run problems.
just replace the Cd drive with something better. My mad dog works great. [:)] ]'>
I have a pro 630 and I love it,have an extra one for parts. Got them at the
thrift store for $5 or $6. Theres a place inside for a HD but I dont have the
bracket for it. Good luck with your 600,they are built like a tank you know.
