    White 2008 MacBook!

Not sure if you are already aware of this, but unless you want to spend $85 on a new MagSafe like I just did, you should be careful about putting strain (i.e. bending, pulling, etc.) on the adapter.

    iMac G4 minimum OS?

As far as OS 9 goes, I strongly suspect that if your iMac IS OS 9 compatible, you would need a system specific restore disk. My PowerMac G4 MDD has the same problem. It won't even recognize a retail disc for either 9.1 or 9.2.2 (not sure exactly which one I have).I think almost all of the iMac...

    Tweaking 10.4 for a mid-range G3: how to kill the eye-candy?

My iMac G3 has similar specs, and I've found that the best thing you can do is get a new hard drive, max out the RAM, kill Spotlight and Dashboard, and hope for the best. My iMac Specs: 500MHz G3 Processor 512MB of RAM 120GB Seagate or Western Digital Hard Drive (MUCH faster than the...

    A Not-so-vintage 2007 Black MacBook

That's "straight to Lion", not "straight to Tiger". Guess I got a little overexcited.

    A Not-so-vintage 2007 Black MacBook

I'm typing this on my new MacBook, which has finally arrived after some trouble with the seller's PayPal account. It is unfortunately running Tiger, but I should have some Snow Leopard disks soon, and I'll go straight to Tiger from there. As the seller said, the battery is shot, so I'll have to...

    A Not-so-vintage 2007 Black MacBook

Found out today that the sellers PayPal was frozen, so he should finally ship in the next two days.

    eMac

It's nice to see an older Mac going to a good cause. I know there is an article somewhere on Low End Mac by Jeff Adkins about a loaner program he ran for his less fortunate students. As I recall it's a little outdated, but the concept is there.

    A Not-so-vintage 2007 Black MacBook

I always liked the black version, and this happened to be the best deal in my price range. I realized after my last post that there was no way the Mid 2007 model came with Leopard, so I was pretty sure it had Tiger, but I appreciate the confirmation. This was actually my second choice auction...

    A Not-so-vintage 2007 Black MacBook

Thanks! My thoughts exactly. You can't beat a MacBook like that with that little wear to the keyboard and trackpad, bad battery or not!

    A Not-so-vintage 2007 Black MacBook

I just won a used May, 2007 black MacBook on eBay for $355. While it's not vintage, it's certainly an upgrade from my G4 MDD tower, which is perfectly functional, but nonetheless beginning to show it's age. This one has a 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and a bad battery. I'm...

iMac G4 as a main computer? Thoughts?

My current "daily driver" is a PowerMac G4 "Mirrored Drive Doors" with a 1.25GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, and the stock 64MB graphics card. It actually does okay, even on YouTube, but what you have to remember is that my machine was the "top of the line" at the same time as the higher end iMac...

Anyone else noticed the rise in value of compact Macs?

I snagged a fully functional SE with case, keyboard, mouse, and manuals at the local Goodwill Computerworks for about ten bucks two years ago. If I had any desire to sell it, that thing could go for around $200 in the current market.

    SE/30 w/Signatures (a request)

My SE is one of the originals (dual floppy, modded with a hard drive) and it has the signatures. I'm not sure of the date and place of manufacture. I will have to look into that.

Which G4 would be Suitable for A/V Work?

I was ON a broadcast team last year, but we got a pathetic HP/Compaq on which we ran a PowerPoint until the live broadcast started. We had a nice camera, which was replaced with a $1200 one that as of the end of the year had not yet arrived :-/ . We had a cheap RCA video A/V switch and an old...

    iMac G3: Buying Tips?

I've owned my Blue Dalmatian G3 for most of my life, and if I can tell you one thing, it is not to bother with less than a slot-loading 400MHz machine if you want something at least semi-usable under Tiger. Mine is a 500MHz version, and it runs Tiger just fine. As a standard procedure I use...
