Tips for speeding up an SE

Hey guys, hope the health is good. I'm using it as it is, slow and all, it don't matter that much now hehe I do have a potential Power Mac 7100 (IIRC) that is available locally,  and I fixed the SCSI drive in my PowerBook 165C and it's up and running. One thing I was thinking is: If I'd...

Tips for speeding up an SE

Thanks a ton guys, did not know about that boot key combination! Excellent :) I finally had a proper test jam tonight, sequencing a bunch of hardware synths on the SE with a Opcode 3 interface  and g’day the timing is good and funky! I’m so happy! ehm, I checked the RAM this evening and it...

Tips for speeding up an SE

Hi Josh, thanks for the help!    It is a SE with 1 MByte if RAM (I do have a huge collection of RAM chips, but getting the logic board out is a bit time consuming so I’ve let it wait.) The SE is indeed booting from the MiniScribe SCSI drive. Once the program is loaded up and all windows are...

Tips for speeding up an SE

Hey guys, normally I search my ball$ off for the answers I need ...actually I talked to some of my buddies about this; search engines today have really taken a plunge (they used to be much more accurate a few years ago -I guess the web is bloated with stuff nowadays LOL) I haven't found any...

Pismo drive replacement - what type of SSD do I need?

I’d go for the IDE to CF route, I have one in a Performa, works like a pig.  I have the “Chinese Connection” in my G4 PowerBook (white m.2 PATA/IDE box + cheap 32GB Chinese m.2 SSD) and that thing is VERY unstable, the system’s Node Tree gets corrupted every once in a while, requiring a fresh...

    Macintosh Classic II Blues... :/

Ah, thank you very much! That eases my mind, I had a Performa the other day that had a rather crusty CRT, I was on needles the entire time, just waiting for it to catch fire in the kitchen LOL

    Macintosh Classic II Blues... :/

::) pheew! AC and CRTs are my least favorite. Just a quick glance; C14, what's going on there? F1 is that a fuse or an inductor? Also, isn't there a jumper somewhere on the board for the RAM configuration? Is it in the correct state?  (I'm sorry, I repair synthesizers, just got a...

    Performa Rehousing

I took the 5260/120 apart, cleaned it out, sprayed the PSU and Analog Board with contact cleaner, tried my best to get all dust out of there..  I specifically remember my dad mentioning you need to "massage" the old brittle plastic, to loosen it up a bit, because this just snaps like a twig...

Performa 5200 + 5260/120 refuse to boot from CD

*edit* I guess I was a bit tired,  I had the Performa 5200CD System Restore disc, when I should be using the Performa 5200/75 one....... Seems to work, especially when I booted into the old IDE drives’ system and chose CD as the default boot device.

Performa 5200 + 5260/120 refuse to boot from CD

What’s the dealio?  I have a HFS formatted Performa 5200 Restore 7 and 7.5 CDs, burnt at slow speed.  Neither computer wants to boot from it (four chimes downwards) BUT they both see the CD when I’m in the system (desktop) and I can browse and run the restore app. Holding C and...

    Performa Rehousing

Hello  gang, new guy here. (lurker) I have a bunch of computers of all sorts (up to 20≈ish now LOL) I have a G4 at work doing some oddball stuff alongside a Mac Pro for all kinds of design and photography work. Got my hands on an old PowerBook 165C with all original documents and in mint...
