    Newly re-discovered Mac SE

Nice work diagnosing the RAM issues! If it were me, I'd remove the accelerator and make sure the logic board will get you to a flashing floppy disk. That way you know the majority of the logic board is in a working state.

Mystery IIsi that chimes, but has no video, and won't boot!

You bring up a good point here. I've done some serial diagnostic work on a Portable but didn't even think to try the IIsi. I know it's supported - just need to figure out syntax for the right tests to run. Unfortunately a lot of this isn't super well documented. I'll post back though when I have...

Mystery IIsi that chimes, but has no video, and won't boot!

When you say "video controller chip" you're talking about the RBV chip at UA3?

Checked this as well - good continuity just missing some solder mask is all.

Yup, all toned out just fine. I did just purchase an interposer SIMM from zigzagjoe. I might try it on the IIsi for giggles and see what the bus is doing upon power up.

5300ce LCD Hunt... Nothing is Working!

Agreed - don't open up an otherwise working machine! Not worth the risk, and I don't think that would give us any more good information. I have verified that a working 5300c display will show a legible image with either the VGA or sVGA display cable. Maybe if you aren't willing to sell the...

5300ce LCD Hunt... Nothing is Working!

I have tried both the 821-0083-02 / 632-0069-02 VGA cTFT cable and the 821-0085-02 / 632-070-02 SVGA cTFT cable. Part number on the LCD is LTM10C036, which should be correct for the 800x600 ce model. I do have a working 640x480 active matrix panel from a 5300c, and it works with both my cables...

5300ce LCD Hunt... Nothing is Working!

I've been trying to source a replacement panel for my 5300ce for around 6 months now. I've tried five (no joke) panels from China, and they all display horizontal lines like I have pictured. No discernable image ever appears. The panels themselves are a little questionable looking, but I find it...

Mystery IIsi that chimes, but has no video, and won't boot!

Nothing yet. I got too frustrated and had to walk away from it for a while. I should revisit it again - just need to come to terms that whatever is wrong probably won't be "easy" to diagnose!

Help Creating Bootable Mac OS 9 CD

Nice! I’ll give this a shot for making new images.

Help Creating Bootable Mac OS 9 CD

Well, here’s one way that works (as long as you have a good CD to start with). Using the copy command in Toast 5, I was able to make a bootable disc. Unfortunately I’m still unsuccessful at burning my own image or an image of a disc, but I guess that’s a problem for another time. One of these...

Help Creating Bootable Mac OS 9 CD

I did actually try that, but Disk Utility didn’t want to make an image from the device. However, if I select the volume itself, I’m able to create the image (See screenshots). Maybe I need a different version of Disk Utility?

Help Creating Bootable Mac OS 9 CD

Well, I’m stumped and have spent way too long and tossed way too many CD-Rs in attempt at this. All I want to do is get an OS9 disc bootable (shouldn’t be that hard, right)? I have a 12” PowerBook G4 I’m using as my burner device, running 10.4. For images, I’m using an OEM 9.2.1 install CD, with...

Mystery IIsi that chimes, but has no video, and won't boot!

Small update: I removed the buffers on each end, and the RAM IC closest to the power supply connector. All traces and pads in good shape, no breaks. I installed a new RAM chip and reinstalled the old buffers. The board was quite clean and so were the chips - no green corrosion visible to my eye...

Mystery IIsi that chimes, but has no video, and won't boot!

I think this will be my next step. If that doesn’t do it, I’ll source a new buffer and RAM chip from a different board. I haven’t ever seen the buffers fail, but I guess anything can happen. I agree it’s ugly in that area with the solder mask missing, but the resistor is in spec and making good...
