    Legal version of OSX???

Yeah, I think that makes sense. This is off the subject a little but, I'm using 10.4.11 now, can anyone give me any reason to upgrade to 10.4.3 or 10.4.4...4...5...6...etc (or to not)? Years ago I used to use FreeBSD, then I went to the dark side for a few years, but since getting the Mac and...

    Legal version of OSX???

Yeah well, I do want to be all legal like so I'll look for an original 10.4 retail install package off eBay. I had also heard that some hacks were required for Leopard to run as well as it running slow on the lesser G4s, so I'll give it a miss.

I think it's too slow for Leopard, it's a dual 450 Mhz PPC...

    Legal version of OSX???

Hi there, I have a G4, which I just got, running OSX 10.4 and I need to know if I'm running a legal copy. Does Mac issue anything like the Window$ certificate? Is there any kind of a license certificate or is possession of the original installation disk (which I don't have) all that is...

    Floppy diskette drive for G4

Hi everyone, I have to create a boot diskette for an LC475. I have an AGP G4 running OSX X 10.4.11. Can anyone tell me if I can put a USB floppy drive on the G4 and have it work? I need to be able to create a bootable Network Access Diskette so I can get my LC475 running.

Using an astronomical telescope with Tiger G4

Hi all, I have a telescope server, built for G4 OS X 10.43, that needs to be given a dev that is connected to the telescope. The scope is RS232 serial, the Mac is USB. I got a USB to RS232 serial adapter which Tiger recognizes as such. But I need to have a device such as /dev/ttyS0 that I can...

    CPU swaps

Hi all, I have a 400 Mhz G4 AGP. I recently had someone tell me that I can take a Mac dual 450 Mhz daughter board and plug it into my 400 Mhz AGP mother board and it will work... Is that true? Can I plug in any Mac dual processor (ie, a faster one)? Will the installed OS X 10.4.11 still work?

LC475, resurection or do I use it as a planter?

Hi JRL, The drive mentioned is the floppy disk drive, not an IDE hard disk. But, that's a good idea for testing a hard drive though. Re my LC475 problem: I'm going to get some new, guaranteed error-free diskettes and try the procedure again. In a parallel operation, I'll get an ATX power...

LC475, resurection or do I use it as a planter?

Hi Bunsen, No, I didn't swap the cable, just the fd drive, I'll try the cable now. I will get an atx power supply from somewhere. I've been doing this on my laptop and I don't have a PC or an atx power supply in the house. The beige is going to need some work too, but I'll give it a try...

LC475, resurection or do I use it as a planter?

Hi Benjgvps, I've tried everything, but still no joy. I've unpacked the zip archive and used Transmac to format and copy the image to 8 different diskettes. Sometimes the format fails tho not often, always copying the image to the diskette fails, usually right at the end with 'Error writing to...

LC475, resurection or do I use it as a planter?

Hi all, I've been away and am just getting caught up. Both the LC475 and the G3 are inoperable, the LC you know about and the G3 needs a power supply plus I don't know what else. As soon as I can get a power supply I'l give the G3 a shot but I don't have much hope, I've gathered parts far and...
