Difference Between "Macintosh II Video Card" and "High Resolution Display Video Card"

Hmm, OK. It seems neither one's performance is anything remarkable. Which one is rarer? c

Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator

It's a sign of the times, unfortunately. People in general have become so divided over such mundane things that it amazes me that anyone can agree on anything at all anymore. I had been contemplating getting a BlueSCSI, if only to try it out and see what it's like, but in light of these...

Difference Between "Macintosh II Video Card" and "High Resolution Display Video Card"

I have two of the former, and one of the latter. How are they different? As I recall, the II was available with either the standard monochrome card for the basic Mac II display, or a high resolution card which could drive the HiRes color display. c

Picked up a couple of pristine PowerBooks

When my iBook clamshell (the first laptop I could call my own) was my main machine (1999-2004), I dropped it often, and I even once left it outside in the rain by accident, and it never died! The CD drive's tray got all wonky and wuldn't latch closed, but if I wanted to use it, I'd just get a...

Picked up a couple of pristine PowerBooks

That PDQ looks immaculate! It reminds me of my distant memories of my mother's Lombard when it was new, except 10-year-old me made sure it didn't stay that way for long... ;) c

    7100 no video

@slomacuser I'm not an expert in these maters, but I think those bubbles are the least of your problems, for that CPU die appears to be cracked, unless that's just discoloration from partially cleaned old thermal paste? This isn't related to @joshc 's problem per se, but it might offer a clue...

    Evie's Conquests

Well, on the bright side, if the worst happens and you get a box full of shattered plastic, you will learn in great detail how to fix it! c

    Cloning the Interware Booster 30

Ah, yes! I didn't notice that. Good spotting!! c

    Cloning the Interware Booster 30

I notice three differences: There are a few smudges of dust on the PCB, and something that looks like flux residue on the CPU The socket for IC3 is slightly different (the pin holes are round on the reassembled photo, but they're not on the original) The solder looks fresher c

    Cloning the Interware Booster 30

I don't have much low level knowledge of these sorts of things, but I know enough that I can speculate: perhaps it has something to do with the LC's lack of a PMMU? (The '030, and hence the LC II, has a PMMU built in, primarily to facilitate support for System 7's then-new Virtual Memory...

FWB NuBUS Jackhammer Incompatible with Fujitsu 2.3G MO Drive

I've been feeling quite lousy the past few days. i thought it was a cold or something other than covid, but then I looked up at the neighbor's sycamore trees and all the pollen they're spewing into our yard (said neighbor, of course, is upwind, so he gets almost none of it). If anyone here...

Trying to Install a Sonnet Encore/ST 1.8 CPU Upgrade in my Sawtooth...

I see. I'll try that! I think I now have a valid reason to install a PRAM battery.... c

Trying to Install a Sonnet Encore/ST 1.8 CPU Upgrade in my Sawtooth...

Thank you all! The bootable NewerTech/GigaDesigns/PowerLogix patch worked! The silly thing now is that now that I've upgraded it, I'm not sure what to use it for! I put a SCSI card with an external Mac-style DB25 port, so I guess I can use this for my film scanner? It's fully loaded with...

Trying to Install a Sonnet Encore/ST 1.8 CPU Upgrade in my Sawtooth...

...and nothing's happening! After about 5 years, I finally have the opportunity to upgrade my Sawtooth with a Sonnet Encore/ST 1.8 GHz accelerator I got I think during 2017 sometime, and after clearing up some weird RAM-related problems with some DeoxIt (to clear out oxidation in the RAM...

    Kaleidoscope Theme Archive (With Images!)

@unity Agreed. TL;DR: Modern UIs are, in my opinion, boring and inflexible compared to those of the 90s and early 2000s. I'm glad I was able to experience those times, albeit at the tail end (the concept of "theming" one's UI did persist well into the 2000s and even the early 2010s, though...
