G4 MDD- feels faster then PM G5

I felt the same way with my dual 1.58ghz (overclocked 1.42) MDD. It always seemed a hell of a lot more responsive than my dual 2.0ghz G5 with a buttload of RAM. Both had the same Radeon 9800 Pro GPU.

preparing my G5 for 720p video?

My DP 1.8 with 2GB RAM and 9800 Pro (also with FX5200) played 720p AS LONG as nothing else was going on in the background.

    21.5in Late 2009 iMac

Thats not too awful. iLuggers are $150, but if you don't need it, its no use. Troll an Apple store and offer it to a OneToOne member for half price and you'll probably be able to sell it. Those old people who go in for training love those things.

    Quicksilver vs. MDD

Power supply issues with MDDs (besides the noise) are usually caused by having an ADC display connected and having the machine off or sleeping. The trickle power to the LCD heats the power supply up enough to burn something out because there is no air circulation without the fans on. The best...

    PowerBook G4 operating system

Even if the restore disk is from a different Mac (of same architecture), it should still boot and just say its not compatible. The only thing locking those restore discs to certain machines is a flag in a plist file limiting the installer to only work on machines with a certain model identifier...

    21.5in Late 2009 iMac

Just curious, what did you pay for this? I had same model and sold it without the mouse (because I sold that as soon as I took it out of the box) and I got $800 in July of 2010. I didn't take a huge loss because I bought it 25% off retail because of my job at Apple when I bought it. I am so glad...

SDHC -> 2.5" IDE in an iBook G4: any experiences?

They are incredibly slow in comparison to even the slowest of 4200rpm IDE hard drives. It's not worth it. They are also not designed to cope with the massive amounts of read/writes a modern OS performs. Beings this is an iBook G4 you have to be running some version of OS X. These SDHC cards vary...

iMac G5- Doesnt Power up- Has good trickle voltage

Typically even if there is trickle power but the unit will not power on, only 1 LED lit on the logic board (the one for trickle), the power supply is typically at fault. If you have a spare power supply to test with you can boot the machine and look in the logs for "-110" . You will see, and a...

    Imac G5!

X's and Peace Signs as I called them where the most common to be leaking on all the iMac G5's I've worked on, which are hundreds. We kept covering them at Apple long after the repair extension was over, so I worked on a lot. I did see some with bad K's but it was rare.

    Unfreaking-believable

Not bad. I wish I could find a home for my MDD dual 1.42 @ 1.58ghz with copper heatsink, 2GB RAM, FW800, Airport Extreme, internal Bluetooth, crap ton of drives, probably 1TB worth, USB 2.0 cards, FW 400 and 800 cards, Radeon 9000 64MB with ADC. I'd take a few bucks more than you paid for your...

    Imac G5!

Ouch. That's a lot of money for an iMac G5.

The Third Addition to my Family.

I've had more luck with nVidia GPUs and a heatgun than I have with ATi. I've tried to heatgun a few of those iMacs with x1600 and an x1900 or something from a Mac Pro and they always end up worse. I've fixed one 8600m and an 8400 (maybe, I forget) with no issues and very minimal effort. Let us...

    Totaled G5 - Idea Thread

I am almost always down for a project as well. iMac G5's are the one machine I won't even take for free.
