Sad Mac code meaning LC II

Just an update for everyone... I did try regular 6.0.8 on the LCII, and it worked perfectly. I think the original problem was that there was something wrong with the hard disk or something at the spot where it was trying to install the L version, and that caused the Sad Mac. Can HD SC Setup...

Sad Mac code meaning LC II

equill...thanks; yes, I am using System Picker. Surprised me totally when Startup Disk saw all of the partitions as one! I never used it back when I was actually using System 7 for "real" work...never had a drive big enough! Scott, I'll try out a regular 6.0.8 and see what happens. I was...

    SE video questions...

Not to hijack the thread, but is there anything involved in getting System 1 to run on the SE? Or do you just need to make a boot disk, stick it in, and away you go? I have a VERY early 2 floppy Se, if that makes any difference.

    installing 7.6 on a 5500

equill, you have popped up yet again with great advice from the other side of the world! I did more research last night while waiting to see what would show up in here, and found something interesting: The Apple specs for the 5500 say no 7.6, but a chart of what models use what flavours of...

    installing 7.6 on a 5500

According to Low End Mac, the 5500 uses 7.5.5 through 9.1 for system software. I found a 7.6 universal CD on eBay and bought it, intending to put that on the 5500 as one of the operating systems (the others being 8.6 and 9.1). I tried it out, and nothing...this computer doesn't support this or...

Sad Mac code meaning LC II

I shall certainly try out equill's advice. I have 7.0.1 on it, and 7.1 as well (all on separate partitions), as well as an ProDOS partition for the Apple IIe card; it is exactly what was said...it is a curiosity. I have the regular 6.0.8 on the SE, on a ZIP, and will make boot floppies for some...

Sad Mac code meaning LC II

Unless the original RAM is not good, this isn't it...my LC II never got upgraded from the original 4MB from Apple. I suppose I could take out 1 stick at a time to see if one or the other isn't good...

Sad Mac code meaning LC II

I've been trying to get 6.0.8L working on my LC II...not as easy as it should be...(Anyone have any hints??) I think I got a complete install finally, but when I tried booting from it, I got the happy Mac icon and chime, then a blank grey screen, then the happy Mac again; this repeated a couple...

    inside the 5500

Aha! I knew it had to something different like that, but couldn't think what. Thanks for the info!

    inside the 5500

What is the large open space for to the right of the hard drive when looking inside a 5400/5500 from the back panel? There seems to be a spare power cable or something, but no other connectors that might attach to anything...

trying to get USB/Firewire card to work on 5500

Thank you for the ideas...I will try them out and see what happens. On continuing my research after I posted, I did run across the problem with the 55/6500s and TAM, and wonder if finding another card might not be the best answer...the Belkin was originally in my G3, where it worked fine; the...

trying to get USB/Firewire card to work on 5500

I've got a USB/Firewire CD writer I am trying to get to work with the 5500. I have a Belkin F5U008 USB/Firewire PCI card in the PCI slot. I am running 9.1 (which apparently has the Firewire extensions built-in) and installed the USB Support 1.4.1 from Apple, and the have the Toast OS9 extensions...

    memory for a PM 5500

Well, glad I didn't try it then!! 8-o I did some more checking, and discovered that I have the max amount of RAM for the 5500 anyway... Thanks!

    memory for a PM 5500

Can a PowerMac 5500 use PC100 RAM? It looks like the same size and pin configuration, but I'm not 100% sure. Thanks!

    problem with Q605 startup

The drive was the 160 MB that came with the computer...the data is totally replaceable, so getting a new one for cheap would not be a problem. Looks like that might be the route to take, unless I can dredge one up from one of the other computers... Thanks for the help!
