Hey everyone,
I accidentally broke L1 on an SE logic board. I'd like to order a replacement from Digikey — does anyone know what the part is, and what the value is? It kind of looks like a resistor, but something tells me it's not a resistor.
@LaPorta I am the same. I do a mean recap, and try to be as proactive as possible about replacing components that are known to have a high failure rate. Anything more than that, though, and I have to ship it out to someone with actual troubleshooting and repair skills.
Does anyone know if any progress ever happened on this project?
It’s a really cool idea that keeps popping back into my brain every month or so, but I have none of the skills necessary to contribute.
@PowerMac_G4 I saw your post about that in another thread — I'm sorry to hear about what happened!
I googled the LG part number (6174z-1003g) and found that there was a replacement from HR Diemen. HR Diemen was a well-known manufacturer of flyback replacements back in the day. When I found...
More thinking out loud — I wonder what is considered an acceptable tolerance for capacitor values? And I wonder how your capacitors would read when tested for ESR and current leakage (not physical electrolyte leakage).
Badcaps.net had a pretty active forum about capacitors years ago. I'm not...
What an incredibly thorough deep dive into the current health of your machine's capacitors — this is fascinating. With all the debate about recapping in this hobby, actual data like this is a big step in the right direction.
I don't know how to interpret your findings, but, on my iMac G3...
@PowerMac_G4 I replaced them all. My philosophy of capacitors is that it takes more time and work to pull, test, and re-install than to just replace. And since they’re a wear item anyway, I see a full replacement as good preventative maintenance if it’s a machine I really like. That way they...
Did LG do the monitor part on these?
If so, I'm not surprised to hear that the boards have awkward layouts and oddly-placed shields. That was my experience doing a full teardown and recap of a trayloader iMac too, where the monitor and power supply are LG. I was able to complete a full recap...
This is fantastic! I've got SCSI2SD in most of my Macs, but man do my machines feel sterile without hard drive sounds. I know there was talk on this forum of creating an "HDD sound" generator a year or two ago, but I don't think the project went anywhere. I'd love for my SCSI2SD macs to whir...
I agree, it's going to be really neat to see them all together in one place!
Daniël, I would be happy to share my capacitor list with you. The only caveat is that as far as I understand, there were two revisions of the analog board and power supply for the trayloader. (This is not to be...
