l008com
Is there a source for new batteries for these old machine? If not, is there potentially a place where you can get custom batteries made? I know my friends have gotten custom batteries made in the past for various things. And it wasn't prohibitively expensive. But that said, this half memory could be entirely wrong.
68020 maceffects Posted August 20, 2019 68020 Report Share Posted August 20, 2019 There was a few years back but I can't find it now. I think putting new cells in the battery case is the only thing that can be done at this point, unfortunately.
AlpineRaven
Ive been eying on this one for a while - I am suspected its the same as 1400 pack. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Replacement-Battery-For-FUKUDA-CardiMax-FCP-7101/292068610746?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=591046782145&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 Cheers AP
Trash80toHP_Mini
Nope, here's a pic of a 1400 pack. Here's a way to do a re-cell with AAA. Rough layout, ISTR it's for a BTI clone, so the wiring is probably off for the standard components you'll need to harvest from a dead bat pack. Pics from last page of this thread:
AlpineRaven
Interesting what Battery is that? (edit: realised that's PowerBook Duo battery) This battery pack is from my 1400c/166 which is why I looked up that pack with that link above. Trash80toHP_Mini
OOPSIE! My bad. I was going to point out the electrical components related to charging that CardiMax battery pack in the 1400, but had to run to work. Your picture is better as there looks to be a PCB involved as well, which may make things easier of harder. I have my doubts about one dedicated battery pack being compatible with another. In Duo batteries, re-celling with higher capacity cells gains nothing in terms of maximum charge level. The electronics in the BTI Batteries for Duos allow for higher capacity cell compatibility. It's not a matter of the individual batteries, it's all about the electronics in the various packs. Now I need to bust open one of my 1400 bats to satisfy my curiosity. klode82
I'm working very hard to exchange the cell inside my M4195 battery (it is equals to @AlpineRaven one). But I think I've lost my schematic to reconnect all things well. Is the schematic of @Trash80toHP_Mini equals to the original. Elsewhere, is there someone who can show me the original schematic of this battery?
LaPorta
I know I have started quite a flurry of activity on 2300 batteries in my other thread. My only other PowerBook is a 1400, and it looks like someone started a thread here about rebuilding these batteries. Was any progress ever made on this?
Challenger 1983
I am still unsure which method I am going to use with my Duo, I still have to make a conquest post on my duo gear as I just got a 48mb module for my 2300c, If I end up replacing the NiMH cells like for like I will post the results. LaPorta
I just sourced 8 4/3A batteries from a local store, and they are also going to tack-weld tabs on for me. We will see how this all plays out...
LaPorta
By the way, does anyone have a charger/maintainer for the 1400 batteries they'd sell?
LaPorta
Just cracked my pack. Thankfully, it looks like it just came from the factory, so the rebuild shouldn't be all that bad.
