StyleWriter I - no ink on paper

My StyleWriter I won't output any ink on the paper regardless of which cartridge I use. I have used two new ones and blamed it on a defective one the first time. Now, it won't do anything with the other cartridge despite having purged the cartridge multiple times.

 

Everything sounds fine otherwise within the printer.

 

What is my next step here?

Seems like that printer had the print nozzles in the cartridge.  Make sure the contacts on the printer and on the cartridge are clean.

Are these New-new cartridges or are they New old stock?  Not sure how well old stock would do; ink could have dried up or even just thickened enough to not flow.

Tried a replacement cartridge? The Canon BC-01 should be easy to find still and soaking the printhead with a paper towel dampened with alcohol usually clears out the clogged heads. Another problem I've had with Canon Bubblejet/Apple StyleWriters is that the cartridge doesn't make good contact with the connection to the printer itself. Usually this results in the printer throwing an error though due to not detecting an inserted ink cartridge.

I have cleaned the Stylewriter but now the PowerBook 1400c OS8.5 will not recognize the printer as I get a 'port in use by another application' alert :-(

So I got out my Stylewriter 2400 and that connected OK (though cannot print for another reason).

 

What causes the  'port in use by another application' alert? Thanks.
