Yeah, I would not install that last one. Really weird as I have not seen a SIMM every do that! If you are getting funny noise/lines then the SIMMs are bad or something since it works fine with the old ones. A pic of screen may help though. I suppose it could also be a power draw issue. But that burnt SIMM is odd/scary.

i personally bought many many 30pin 16meg simms  (over the last 4 years) from 18004memory dudes...   the only problem is the ram is kind of tall making the se/30 main board difficult to install. as the ram simms cause clearance issues, but with a wiggle and some persistence you can still install the mb.

( but i have never had an issue with these guys sending me bad ram)   I have bought at least 10 sets of 8 in the past from these guys.

if you buy 8 at a time, i know they will let them go for $7.50 a simm too...

looking at those 2 simms... i would not trust these amazon sellers any more... as they are obviously shady....  sending something like that to a customer.......

Do not buy from these guys... if you do beware....

the last thing i want to do is suggest a company that sends out junk to customers.

To be fair to the guys they we're in silver sealed plastic so you couldnt see the damage until i opened them. they're most likely cheap chinese chips, ive emailed the seller and asked for a replacement simm as the others look fine. Zippy my se/30 is working again with the old simms are back in be it with only 8mb

Thanks guys. So the different start up noise is the mac telling me something is wrong? It sounded like the intro of jasons mac museum youtube videos

I agree with Uniserver. I'm looking over the posted pics and there is a lot of Bad to say about them.

Like Uniserver pointed out, the 3rd SIMM (next to the burnt one) was its cap in its wrong location. But also, look at the traces under it as well, it looks like to me there is spilt solder they tried to clean up and did a bad job in removing the spilt solder, creating shorts. Also on that one and the burnt one, it looks like there is a cold solder joints in chips at the bottom of the SIMMs. And the Labels hang over the edge of the chips! That's the job of a rank amateur right there! I would send them back with an email saying "Thank you for wrecking my machine!" Make sure Amazon gets a copy of that email!

Anyone can get those sliver bags and a sealer, hell, you can get them on ebay for almost nothing! Though a lot of them are closing down in NYC, I seen "Chinese Tech Firms" have a young guy in the back and his job is going through a mound of SIMMs, matching them, and running them through a SIMM tester before putting a label on them and putting them and sealing them in a silver anti-static bag before it goes onto a shelf for sale.

You're lucky that it did not hurt your SE\30. Very lucky.

I would have to agree with TechKnight in that the SIMMs had chips stolen off them.

But from the looks of it, they look like 3-Chip Parity SIMMs with the Parity chip removed. This would leave 2 4-bit 8mb RAM Chips; which maybe workable on the Mac II Series (which includes the SE\30). Something about not all high density chips work on the Mac II Series but will on other 30pin SIMM Macs. I have a bunch of 1MB 3 Chip SIMMs and one of those Chips is for Parity; remove that chip and it will still work.

It's a waste of time to do this but who knows, desoldering the chips, cleaning up the SIMM Board and resoldering the chips back on should make it work again. To me, it looks like sloppy workmanship that is screwing up the SIMMs.

That's good.  Hope everything is smooth sailing from here.

Let's not advise people to commit wire fraud, hmm?
