bibilit
Not the car unfortunately, just one of those Lacie external drives designed by Porsche: Was just 3 euros, including the PSU. The HD is 160 Gb, and working fine... not bad.
galgot
Nice find Would love a Jaguar myself, but they don't make hard drives...
techknight
huh. I didnt know those were made by porche. I had a whole stack of those things I worked on and got rid of. some with good drives, some with bad.
TheWhiteFalcon
I have one of those too, FW400?
johnklos
FireWire 400, yes, and they take IDE disks. They're pretty tidy, but they don't take the standard 2 amp, 12 volt power supplies.
CC_333
LaCie made a "Porche-designed" CD/DVD burner as well (I have one + enough parts for another). I generally like it, but with all the internal drives I have at my disposal, I don't really have much use for it. Though they're always handy to keep around, just in case. Anyway, that hard drive looks really nice. Kinda makes me want one.... c Edited December 27, 2015 by CC_333
TheWhiteFalcon
Yeah, the PSU connector is mini DIN. I was using mine for Time Machine backups on my Mac Pro.
techknight
yup most ide. i had 2 that were SATA.
Scott Baret
You can run your Porsche on Jaguar if you have 10.2!! Great drives. I have an 80GB and have been happy with it over the ten years I've had it.
Scott Baret
CC, did you buy that burner off me by some chance? I know I sold one to an MLAer!!
CC_333
No, I don't think so? I think I got it at a nearby consignment place a few years ago. c
Schmoburger
More of a Mercedes-Benz guy myself, but one of those certainly would compliment my G5 nicely!
Trash80toHP_Mini
Nice find Would love a Jaguar myself, but they don't make hard drives... Love Jags, but a Barracuda's easier to come by . . . the drive anyway.
CelGen
I don't see any ventilation on it. Is there at least a fan on the back?
bibilit
No, don't see any, but very silent.
Trash80toHP_Mini
Is there any provision for airflow at all? Is the case made of metal, acting as a heat sink/radiator? Sounds like Porsche, given the wall wart, there wouldn't be all that much heat to dissipate, but curious as hell. Edited January 10, 2016 by Trash80toHP_Mini
CelGen
No, don't see any, but very silent. Well there's the true Porsche design for you. Looks pretty but doomed to overheat. I sure wouldn't use that enclosure for anything but an SSD.
techknight
I didnt know these had any interest, or I wouldnt have tossed the stack of 30 or so I had, Obtained them for disposal from P&G. All of them but 1 had a bad power brick, they suffered from the capacitor plague. Thats the one big thing to watch out for on these. the bricks go poof. most were 500GB models, couple were 320GB. I remember a couple of them being SATA, and remember a couple of them having fried controllers from the bad power bricks. Edited January 11, 2016 by techknight
