  1. Board has already been lightly washed and thoroughly IPA cleaned but I’ll do it again, ty! Because this isn’t my board I would prefer to keep the dishwasher to a last resort. Was mostly looking to see if anybody’s seen this particular version of the issue before.
  2. Thanks tech, I've fixed/resoldered the inductor thankfully so hopefully it holds up.
  3. So I've been recapping another MLA board member's Classic I board, and an issue that I've encountered after the recap was finished is the following. This behavior apparently happened beforehand to at a more frequent degree. About every once in a while (1 out of 15 boots or so) I get either the checkerboard or a pattern of repeating ~4 pixel wide horizontal black and white lines. After 5-10 seconds, the Classic chimes and boots as normal. I know checkerboard is a relatively common issue with unrecapped Classic boards but has anybody seen this particular manifestation of
  4. So I was recapping yet another PB 100. In the past I didn't seem to have issue with removing this inductor (to make recapping easier) but this time I unfortunately knocked off the leg of this inductor. Going to try and salvage it but can anybody point me to a compatible replacement just in case I can't (preferably on Digikey)? This is an radial inductor - top says "151 yj"

@joshc Believe it or not, this SE/30 was actually posted as an offer post! Though I had a wanted ad ongoing at the same time (all of the things I mentioned in the prior post came from replies to the ad). You bet that I immediately jumped on the opportunity when I saw the post. My general ad just expressed a general interest in vintage Apple/Mac stuff along with an offer to help recover data if needed. I fixed up the SE/30 - it had a bad flyback/burned transistors on the AB and due to the fact that new flybacks seem to be nigh impossible to find I just swapped the analog

@rplacd it really depends. When I started collecting 10+ years ago it was a lot easier, I think I just got really lucky around now. Still worth a try nowadays! also, brought home the SE/30. Pretty good shape minus it not working just yet, but I’m not complaining for free either.

    JRL's Conquests

Tried my hand at a Freecycle ad again and got lucky this time over the past few weeks. Picked up the following for free: Macintosh Plus system (no KB but came with mouse, external FDD, Jasmine SCSI HD, bag) -Apparently bought used in the early 90s but she wound up never using the Plus. Works great. iBook G3 Tangerine + accessories box -works great, has 10.3 on it but I plan on downgrading to 9. 320 mb ram and stock HD. Great shape minus some of the typical plastic cracking near the LCD logo and handle. G4 MDD -haven't checked specs but seems complete.

It's for the full size (original) Radius Two Page Display:
  9. Happy to say that Daxeria of Macintosh Garden helped me find the MacSprint control panel! The card gives a noticeable speed boost, but of course not as great as a proper accelerator. This II came with a FH 5.25 sled so I picked up a proper HD to ensure it didn't go to waste

Nice grab! I have a TPD monitor/card that has the v4.4 ROMs (System 7 compatible ones) and they're faulty, so I may have to try yours.
  11. Just as a followup, a proper 040 with FPU did fix this issue. Yay!

@jonpurdy Wow, that's crazy you ended up with one too! Still on the hunt for the control panel but I'm hoping I'll find it soon. @Trash80toHP_Mini Yup, it is for the 2400c! It's not groundbreaking in terms of port options, but it does have the floppy Molex cable for the external FDD built into the dock which is nice as they're so hard to find if your 2400c FDD is missing the cable. I recapped the Mac II and installed a set of new batteries (also patched a totally gone trace), it's running great now. It has a really cool non-standard HD sled that can accommodate a FH 5.2
  13. Has anybody had any luck with getting these particular Seagate drives to work on a Mac with built in termination? I have two that refuse to do anything under normal operation (but work fine with an external terminator). I've tried pretty much almost every mixture of termination jumper options as listed in the manual here: https://www.seagate.com/support/disc/manuals/scsi/67450e.pdf Kind of at a loss
  14. Fixed a bad trace near the power switch and it *almost* works fine. With internal video though, it gives a dark black (instead of gray) screen. Nubus video works fine. Where should I look at next? Edit: Mouse movement also locks up after I reach the desktop but works fine beforehand using internal video only. With a Nubus video card everything works fine. Thanks!
  15. So update - apparently the death chime issue fixed itself. Now the IIci does the following: With internal video - startup chimes and black screen With Nubus video card - startup chimes and solid grey screen (This is on my Apple Color Plus 14" which generally works great with IIci internal video) Going to inspect traces again..
  16. So I have a IIci here that has a particular issue. It has been recapped. With a known good set of 4 simms (I've tried 1mb and 2mb groups of 4 in bank A) it boots with no chime to a grey screen, then restarts with a chime and death chimes (normal (not slow) speed)/black screen ~5 seconds later. With no RAM it just boots to a solid grey screen. I've tried looking at traces and have patched a few that tested bad but now I'm at a loss as to where to look at. Of note, bank B does have two snapped off RAM clips but this behavior was all with nothing in bank B. T
  17. So I picked up a Macintosh II from my friend that has this neat upgrade in it. It's basically a cache upgrade for the II that is supposed to bring the performance up to an IIx. Anybody have a lead on the software (control panel) for it? Unfortunately I can only find mentions of the upgrade in various vintage MacWorld/MacUser issues and nothing else. The II is dead right now (and never had a HD for the duration of time my friend owned it), waiting on new PRAM batteries currently.

Picked up more stuff from same friend for free: 2 IIcis (both are pretty rough/non working - I've recapped one so far but there are some remaining issues) 1 Macintosh II (with Orchid MacSprint II cache upgrade, dead, replacing batteries soon! 2 Apple High Resolution 13" monitors 1 Multiple Scan 15" If anybody has any info on the MacSprint II card definitely let me know, it's supposed to use an additional control panel but unfortunately this II came to my friend without a hard drive 15+ years ago.
  19. Nice score! Very partial to the 475. From my understanding this is an official upgrade, years ago I saw an image of a Performa 405 with the exact same LC 475 sticker (not applied over the original model name)
  20. Thanks for the suggestions! Yeah, the F-line errors happen every single time on the applications that cause it. As an update, I did try both versions of SoftwareFPU - I either get an F-line or address error, depending on the specific combinations of cache settings. When SoftwareFPU is loaded I do not always get the same error, sometimes it just hangs. Ugh At least I got a partial refund (covering the cost of the new 040 + a bit extra).
  21. The Q610 install set should have a Disk Tools disk with 7.1 that is bootable and has what you need. To be honest though, I don't bother with the Apple utilities and just use Lido or FWB HD Toolkit these days. Install Me First goes straight to the installer so I don't think you can just bin the contents unfortunately booting off of that.
  22. Also, I did do a clean universal install and nothing has changed unfortunately.
  23. I did think of something. The Turbo040 came from Artmix originally, maybe it was a Turbo040i mistakenly flashed with firmware meant for the 040? The chip does have a date of 1998.
