    Large volumes in a 68030

I ended up buying a new SCSI adapter and the drive worked fine. Not sure what everyone is using for a mounting solution but I couldn't find anything so I made this 3d printed adapter thing. Adapts to the plastic rail and provides strain relief for the SCSI adapter. Works good so far in my 6100. Are these rails pretty universal among PPC chassis? Looks the same as my 8500, Performa 62xx and a few others.

Powerbook G3 Pismo - Charger question

This site said the M4402 adapter will work Pismo but originally shipped with the Wallstreet: https://www.powerbookmedic.com/Black-Brick-Style-Power-Adapter-M4402-p-16184.html I went ahead and got one, should be here by Saturday for me to test this unit out.

    So disappointing!
  4. Hello all, I just picked up a Powerbook G3 Pismo locally today but it's lacking a charger. I'm not entirely sure which chargers work but from what I can gather from quick searches, anything with the barrel connector should work, as long as it's the larger style as opposed to the later G4 smaller style. Could someone let me know if this will work: https://www.ebay.com/c/1490814852 Or do you know what part number the original charger is? This is my first ever G3 Powerbook so I'm just learning about them. I have no idea if this one even works but I'm also seeing that they may not boot with the internal clock battery if it's dead so I may need to replace that too. Thanks.

Possible to share one ADB keyboard among two Macs?

I must have mis-read, thought you were live switching like a KVM. That 4 port would work great for one machine on at a time. Also found this 2 port version on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2way-Port-jack-AB-manual-switch-box-SVHS-S-Video-Super-VHS-4pin-mini-din-female/123734333192 I'll have to keep an eye out for one of those KVM's. Also, Belkin made a 2 port KVM for mac: BELKIN OMNIView PS/2 Mac Adapter F1D080 https://www.ebay.com/itm/BELKIN-OMNIView-PS-2-Mac-Adapter-F1D080-/372972548164 I did find this thread where someone mentioned that the svideo switch boxes share a ground pin and could cause trouble. I suppose a caveat to using would be to make sure only one mac is powered on at a time, just like you mentioned.

Possible to share one ADB keyboard among two Macs?

Any caveats or does it work as expected? I would have expected that design is the equivalent of unplugging and plugging in your keyboard which I thought was not supported on most Macs.

SE/30 won't keep time and mouse settings

Nothing to add, unfortunately, but one of my recent SE purchases has these issues so I'm sub'd.

    Large volumes in a 68030

Got my adapter, the same as linked but from different seller, and IBM U320 drive. Didn't think about the terminators! Plugged it all in and the drive doesn't even spin up. No terminator but I don't see how that would prevent the drive from powering up. I guess my options are buy another drive and or adapter to see which one is the issue, then return the defective item. Well before that I'll try a different machine and just plug the drive/adapter into an external power supply. Any other ideas?

Thanks! Not sure why I haven't heard of the adapter/2.5" ultra320 combo before but I'm glad I just did. $32 shipped for both is what I paid.

Which adapter do you use for this?
  13. I always saw those monitors paired with the 6100 and to me, that's the only proper fit! Since it has the squid it will work but wouldn't it look a little small next to the massive 950?

    Help ID this port?

Finally decided to take another crack at this thing. It's been 5 months since I opened it up but I wasn't able to find any manufacturer name or other markings without taking the board out. However, the board would not slide out since the add on card was too tall and the surface mount components were hitting the chassis. Had to bend the side of the metal out and pop the board out from the bottom. Check out the board, a few cool things going on here: It appears to have 2 separate upgrades. First is the 2 Meg "Fat Mac" upgrade from Perspect Systems Inc. out of Venice, CA: Not too much out there about this company, but did find this ad in MicroTimes from 1986: https://archive.org/details/microtimesvolume00bamp_14/page/n21 The case also has a cooling fan added to the rear vents with power tapped from the analog board. Not sure if this is separate or part of the Fat Mac upgrade. Also found this reddit thread for someone else who apparently found one of these. https://imgur.com/a/bemqL Second is this SCSI board from Julian Systems Inc. This is my main focus at this point. I unplugged the SCSI cable but didn't remember or document which way the cable was installed. It has a red stripe on one side for pin 1 I'm guessing, but this SCSI board isn't keyed and I'm not sure how it goes back on. I suppose I should look at the SCSI pinout, find a ground or something and follow a trace on the board. Have to do some more research but not plugging it back in until I'm sure its right. @unity Yup, you were right, the battery area was shaved for the cable to go through. But I reinstalled it, the cable got pinched a little. Bummer. It doesn't look bad but a simple continuity test should confirm it's ok. Another shot of the board showing overlap between the ram board and SCSI. While I was attempting to remove the board from the chassis, the ram board actually pressed down on the SCSI board and it unseated it from the rom socket below just enough where the Mac wouldn't boot, just showed checkerboard on the screen. Re seated it and everything was ok but there was a moment when I got really disappointed, thought I killed it! Here is the 2048K as she sits now. Still got a lot of work to do, none of the drives eject, gotta figure out the SCSI cable, its a bit dirty and there are some cool peripherals that came with it that I can't wait to try out. But I think that will be a separate thread. Just thought I would update this thread since I wasn't able to find much online about this setup. And thanks to @Dog Cow for the work on his 512k site, lot of good info that helped me through this process. https://macgui.com/news/article.php?t=470 https://macgui.com/news/article.php?t=471
