I may need to go with the larger case, but I'm torn as to which one to go with, comments, suggestions?

if your aim was to have a blank, grey mass, you have succeded brilliantly ;)

in all seriousness, you may want to have a peek at that PDF, since it seems to be borken. All it displays for me is a grey background with nothing on it.

Interesting, but I must say that it is kind of boring... The PDF worked ok for me...

You dragged me in with the flat-cute-IIfx-with-feets, y'know =). I imagine with the size of the donor machine that it would be more Q610 sized, or bigger. That's a good bit of internal room there, but perhaps not enough for what you're after.

The feets though. that works for me :D

Well, this PDF I could open. I'd say don't use the middle one. The left or right one would be good. Depends on how retro you wanna be. The one on the right has the logo and name badge in a location that recalls the Q700, whereas the one on the left has them in a more modern location (from the PCI PowerMac towers onwards).

I guess I'd say the Q700-style location is most retro, so I'd choose that.

Previously, I had this problem too (images displaying as gray rectangles). I found that the problem was fixed by turning on the "Display Large Images" preference in Adobe.

I like the right-hand design the best -- the geometric clustering of the floppy, CD, and model number is nice. For extra credit, you would make the apple be the power light. And for extra extra credit, build an illuminated apple with one color LED for power and a second color LED for disk activity so that the apple glows blue from power, but flickers toward green or purple with the disk is active.

It's a "save as" pdf: for web/Acrobat 3.0/RGB right out of Illustrator 8.0.1 . . . it doesn't get any more vanilla than that!

I don't have Acrobat, but I will try to put up another version.

I was thinking about a similar kind of thing . . . but while I was baking in the sun sitting on a bus this morning . . . . . . something popped into my head . . . just a little bit . . . farther over the top.

If I can find all the correct LED colors, I may need to go with a laminated rainbow logo. The Apple's layers would consist of light pipes, carved from clear plexi an having the general appearance of any other run-of-the-mill frosted LED window. The rainbow laminations really ought to light up as the power indicator with the colors, rippling in intensity as a disk access indicator.

I guess I could just use gels and white LEDs too . . .

p.s. mebbe . . . elongate the inboard FDD slot just a smidge . . . FeetsMacII really ought to have an optical drive!

Amazing! A rainbow Apple would be worth hundreds of points of extra credit.

Now if we can just find 6 different signals, then each of the Apple's colors could have meaning. Hmmm.... How about power = green, HD1 = yellow, HD2 = orange, CD = red, network = purple, sound level = blue. Or, if you feel electrically inclined, a 3 line op-amp circuit could drive 3 of the color LEDS off the SCSI address lines to give a binary representation of what the SCSI bus is doing.

You definitely need to bake in the sun some more, jt. It seems to do wonders for your creativity.

Happy Holidays!

TYVM! I kinda liked that one too!

Dunno, I think maybe the rippling would be more interesting visually, and I think I'll need something for those four LaserWriter II LED windows to indicate!

Woooooooo-hohoho!!!!

This hack just took one more step closer to becoming a reality. A 250 Mhz 604ev processor card is on its way from Santa via pogohampster express and, when it arrives, it will be tested in the primary candidate for the IIfPEx motherboard ASAP!

What is pogohampster express?

Hey Trash, does Illustrator 8 have a save for web option? I know that Illustrator 10 does, and that creates nice GIF files.

HAR!

I was thinking about changing them over to elastic chin-strap-snapping party hats for New Years, but I don't think I have the time or energy.

Does somebody need a nap? I find that if I sleep for several hours, I usually have the energy to do stuff, but then I'm easily distracted

Also, pogoing hampsters should be implemented in said "new forum system" (Read: OMG Guess What Time It Is!)
