Last night I was showing one of Dad's friends (who is also really into computers and stuff) how i've got my LC630 set up with my Apple Presentation System as a Media Centre type system. He liked it, but my parents didn't really care, as per usual. Anyway, I had finished, and shut down the machine. Then he saw that i had AV ports on the back of the LC630. (Apple Video System) Anyway, he gave me a cable, which i plugged into the LC630, while i was starting it back up, and he plugged the other end into his digicam. I launched MpegDec and started playing some MP3s. I then launched Apple Video Player, made it full screen, and within a few minutes him and my parents were amazed as the LC630 played MP3s while running the slideshow that the guy was doing on his digicam, with no slowdown at all.

I can't believe the word you've actually got in your sig!

. . . whatever . . . I/O subsystems running in parallel are very cool that way! Do a screen shot, you'll see a blank window, the computer has no idea what the Video System is throwing onto the screen!

Happy Holidays!

*but it made his post longer *

That is very cool, but yeah, trash80 is right, with the 68ks, all of the video and audio processing for the av system is right on the card, and it just pumps it out through the video port and through the speaker funs eh?

That is very high praise though, for 68ks, when your parents, and people who you don't even know, say that it's cool how your 68ks are doing stuff. (next, show him the dos card

Proof they don't make them like they used to because the PPC's were not as advanced, my old 8600/AV couldn't do work in the background while watching movies. The video would freeze.

So, yeah 68K's are quite nice for thier Av circuits.

If somebody were to figure out how to convert Music MPEG files to burn onto a CD so that they looked like a series of MPEG 1 VCD soundtracks to the MPEG Card . . .

Of course converting music videos to VCD format might be interesting too . . .

tBoJ, video files, or the 8600's av junk? *(all 8600s and 8500s are av, so it's not really an 8600av) Most macs of the beige age are not very good at playing movie files, let alone doing *anything else* at the same time.

Trash, are you suggesting an easy way to play music on 68ks? t'would be an interesting thing to investigate.

Actually...i've known th is guy for years. I still think its amazing though how much my parents were impressed with my so called "junk". And just think...a last year when I wanted to try out the Presentation System (I had just gotten it), Mum did a 360 degree flip, because she was worried about it blowing up the TV! (don't ask...)

My mom was about the same way with the Quadra 840av back in Washington, but dad didn't seem to mind, he just said to make sure I put the tv back how I found it

I do wish, however that my PRAM battery had been functional, so that i could have not needed to bring with me everywhere the AudioVision monitor just to get it going

Yup, on the Quadra 630 the MPEG Media Card will probably work for playing MPEG 1 encoded music. IIRC, It was introduced with the 5200, but ISTR reading about it working on the 630.

My 630 had one and it worked fine, it would be good if it could play mp3's though, the hardware is capable.
