Hi! I'm MacAddict314, I'm 14, I've liberated 3 macs, and found this site. I got a Mac SE, Mac SE FDHD, and a Duo 2300c from school(s). So whats up?

"The Sky" of course!

Glad you found us

Many of us liberators have started with a compact mac, and then moved through the ranks, but alot of us started elsewhere, wth Mac II, PPC or LC or such...

Thanks for the welcome. One thing that stinks is I've only got one keyboard/mouse for the three macs. Other then that, they're very cool for 15, 16, and 8 years old!

"Not enough keyboard-itis" is a very common condition with us liberators, it's sad really but your duo has internal keyboard/mouse, so you can use the duo and an se at the same time, no?

Naw, the battery is long dead, and I don't have the AC adapter, so I have to use it docked.

I think that ThePowerToBurn has some keyboards and mice still. Look in the Trading Post, and drop him a line.

Welcome aboard!

If you can liberate some extra monitor and ADB cables from school, I may have a solution for you! You'd need to chop some of the cables in half and solder the wires to some DB-25 connectors/shells. Get an inexpensive DB-25 ABCD switchbox you'd have the first low-tech 68k KVM switchbox and the extra capacity available to hook up your next liberation.

Keyboard/Video/Mouse Switchbox Adaptation

I haven't bothered to try this hack yet, so no guarantees, but the general consensus here and over on 'fritter is that it should work just fine. It's based on the function of the commercial KVM I use every day.

Edit: oops! I linked to the BIG piccie by mistake. There's a pdf file there too, for easier viewing or printing if you're interested in giving it a try.

You can also use SVHS cables in place of ADB cables. As sometimes you can find then cheaper.

and keyboards/mice are often located at goodwill stores and such. (that is to say, a straggler or three is almost gauranteed to be there, depending on your area and 'yeah')

With the duo try taking the lid off the dock and opening the cover of the Duo. On 2300c's you can use the built in KB and trackpad while docked. the monitor stays blank however.

It should work on all the Duos and if it's a Dock II, you can get the LCD to function while docked by removing the ROM IC from its funny little (almost) ZIF socket. You'll lose the functionality of most Dock services by doing so, but it's VERY cool to use it that way!

Just be sure to get advice on how to go about it if you want to give it a try. That you won't fubar the socket or break any pins off the ROM like a certain comrade who shall remain nameless!

welcome comerade!

I'm a little late in welcome, but better late than never. I am now more of a lurker than I was, since for some reason, the times I visit here seem to be the downtimes.

anyhoo, good luck, and search your local computer stores back rooms, and the goodwill for keyboards.

I suffer from too few as well, but whatchagonnado?
