......new thread?

I haven't seen much discussion in here about the compacts for ages! So i was thinking i should start some more discussion on them, before the PPCers start to believe that all us REAL Macintosh owners have dissappeared, "along with their machines", as they would say.

Anyway...recently when i was wrecking a 286, getting as many parts off it as i could before trashing it, i got a whole bunch of IC RAM chips. I think they're all 128 or 256k. The RAM chips in my Macintosh are socketed....hmm....reckon i should try giving it a bit of a boost? I was thinking of doing this a while ago, but of course, i got busy and forgot all about it.

Would the socketed memory Macintosh be a 512K or 512Ke? I've liberated a few Pluses and SE's and the ones I've looked at all used SIMMs. One of them had a SIMM adapter to accomodate 4 more SIMMs, to make 1 MB out of 4 256K SIMMs, and it barely cleared the metal frames above the motherboard in a Plus.

I'm not the original owner, but what it looks like to me is that the previous owner bought an original Macintosh, and then had the RAM desoldered, and had sockets installed, along with enough chips to make up 512k of RAM, as well as a floppy drive upgrade to 800k. Its still an original Macintosh logic board, but just with the newer chip that allows it to use 800k floppy drives, and 512k of RAM instead of 128k. And i know its an original Macintosh, because on the back, it doesn't say "Macintosh 512ke" or anything, it just says "Macintosh".
