I have been trying to install java for my 840av & have even gone to the length of installing IE!

Any body an authority on the best way to have java on a 68k mac?

Try this...

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it sure beats a blank stare for starting a conversation.

I tried the link but no joy, it seems to link to the page it is on, ie:- if the page is scrolled half way down & I click the link it just goes to the top of the page.

nope, well here's what happened

I download the file, & am told i need dropstuff expander(think i have it, thought i had it, do i have it?), well then i give up, but a few days later(when i saw your last reply to this post) I had forgotten what had happened so I tried again, got the same need dropstuffexpander message, but this time I tried clicking on the downloaded file which was on my desktop, now pay attention & if there is any sense in the following let me know,

The file from the net is mrj.2.2.3.bin.sit I believe, this then is on my desktop, this dearchives(?) to become mrj.2.2.3.bin I think, this then dearchives to become mrj.2.2.3.img a disk image file which can then be used,

Then I get told by the installer that it dosn't work on my machine(needs ppc), then i try to install manually, but no it didn't work.

PPC only - what a bummer

I did a little looking around and apparently MRJ 1.x and 3.x are the only ones that work on 68k. Well I didn't find MRJ 3.x anywhere, but this may help...... ftp://ftp.apple.com/developer/Java/

oops, cancel that. version 1.5 is PPC-only too.
