I found an old peecee on the street this week and lugged it home to see what was inside. It was a '95 cyrix 133+ processor job. As I don't have any use for it, I took out the 2Gb HD to give to a relative and took out the processor heat sink and fan. It fits on top of my rather hot 68040 33 MHz processor that I plugged into my Performa 475. I have it held down with a piece of duct tape and the power jack extention was plugged in to my HD drive power line. After an hour running time, the processor is as cool as can be (it is hardly warm to the touch, whereas it used to be painful to put my finger on it) and the fan is quite quiet. I now have a happy mac on my desk. muzhokMac IIsi, Performa 475 (with full 68040 33MHz), Quadra 950, Quadra 650 |

Congrats on the "cool" scavenge. Sometimes old PCs do have a use -- as spare parts or mods for Macs!G4From128k by Day: Mild-Mannered Engineer and Trapeze(tm) Artist by Night: Colonel of Truth, Justice, and the Macintosh Way Reserve Officer in 68kMLA Cantankerous Coot Contingent

Heh, i did the same to my LC630. I think it actually made it go a bit faster, too. Well, at least i think it felt faster afterwards, anyway..."**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |
