Finally got the A/UX installation figured out. I spent this morning installing it on my Quadra 700. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to like my HD. The installer found a whole bunch of errors on the drive that don't seem to bother the normal Mac OS. I'll have to transfer the 500 megger from my PM8100 into there and see what happens.

Oh and btw, for those who are looking for a compatible CD-ROM drive, the AppleCD 300i+ (internal 2x Apple tray load) seems to work fine, without having to patch the CD-ROM driver.

Yes, but any Apple drive faster than 2X won't work reliably with A/UX. One may get fatal errors when trying to install A/UX when using a 4X or faster drive, even if it's an Apple unit. And when using a 4X or faster drive to read CDs on an A/UX system, it will be very tough to get discs to eject, although they will work fine otherwise. (You can drag the icon to the Trash, but it will automatically remount on the desktop a second or two later. The only way to eject is to press the CD drive's eject button during that moment when the CD's icon hasn't yet shown up again on the desktop.)

I installed A/ux 3 (original media, no hacks, and 3.11 update also) on my 950 without error from an internal 8x drive (cant remember if its apple rommed or not, but think it is). So I dont know why having a drive faster then 2x will give you problems.

hehehe, so you're going to write an article about A/UX for the MLAgazine? :hint hint:

I should start another campaign to get more content for that thing, because that's the only thing that keeps it from coming out...

Hey, ML5, can you elaborate on those HD errors you were getting? Ho were you able to get around them? I was installing A/UX on my 700 and a lot of errors came up regarding the hard disk during formatting. I wasnt sure what was causing it and they forced me to abort the install. I just hope it wasnt the SCSI chip on the machine because I had the errors come up with 2 different hard disks.

Cory: I think we'd be better off waiting until i have Apache installed and....*stuff*.

q950: What sort of hard drives are these? This was a Conner 250 meg SCSI, which has given me no problems while being used under the normal Mac OS. However, when I went to install A/UX on it, during the install my screen would get filled with all these errors. Not Mac dialog boxes, but *nix like errors. The drive i'm currently using in the Q700 is a Conner 500 meg SCSI, and it works great.

Yeah, I got a lot of the same kind of errors, UNIX like text, they would appear over anything else on the screen. I was using two different disks in that Micropolis RAID array. I am pretty sure that they are good because I have never had any problems with them in MacOS or on other computers. What did you do to get around those errors?

Replaced the drive with the 500 meg unit i mentioned, and got a nice upgrade in the process.
