Finally got A/UX up and running on my Quadra 950. Thanks to all posters in this forum (and the A/UX newsgroup!)and also Laxx and Logan.
I do have one question concerning the ISO 9660 CDROM Support that is dealt with on the Penelope page (http://www.aux-penelope.com/Customization.html). It states that the NCOD offset 1A00 should originally read 5445 5854 6873 6364 before being changed. I have tried 2 different "ISO 9660 File Access extension" files (one from Sys 8.1 and another from 7.5) and they both read differently.
486E FFFE 4866 FFFA
and
2C2E FFFC 284B 700C
respectively.
What should I change?
I plan to use the system to learn Unix.
Here are the specs:Q950, 4.3Gb IBM HD, 80MB RAM, Apple 600i disc drive, 2 Mb VRAM, crappy 12 inch monitor - still need to find a transceiver though.

that is a decent setup, and for most things I've found the 12" monitors decent enough for most uses

take some screenies of "little known things" or your learnings and maybe some pictures of your unit...

if/when you figure out the CD thing, because I can't answer that... tell us!

I haven't had all that much time to play around with the system since installing it last week, although I have started reading the pdf manual that comes with the installation. Managed to to the 3.1 update and install my favorite chess and go programs, but this is not why I went to the trouble of getting an A/UX system going. I do have quite a few questions, so please, any of you A/UX pros, have a little patience with me.
1. Where (under which directory) should I install mac programs? Does it make a difference? I have already discovered that anything requiring extensions or a complicated installation do not work.
2. When formatting the HD, I gave myself 2 1GB free unix partitions. I don't see them and have no idea what A/UX named them (./, ../?). This was where I originally planned on storing anything new, out of fear of accidently changing something in the system.
Thanks.
And Cory, when I get a chance, I will post something for your article, but I am afraid it won't be this month. Sorry.

you can put mac proggies anywhere... I had a free partition shared for everyone where I'd put all the programs and stuff...

maybe a disk utility would see them? and you could mount them...
