I'm trying to get some LC's networked together, possibly for files, most likely for Spectre and Martathon. I went on eBay and bought about 3 LC PDS Asante ethernet cards. They were all pulled from working macs and they are going into a LC 475, LC 575 and Performa 5200. Since all of these aren't really new, the batteries are dead on them. I've read that dead batteries can affect networking and on the LC 475 they won't even start up. The cards are recognized in 'apple system profiler' and in the 'appletalk' control panel. Can the batteries explain the cards behaviour?. The cross over cable is not the problem.Equipment: LC 475 LC 575 Performa 5200 3x Asanté MCiLC RJ 45 ethernet cards Editor of the printed word, Ministry of 68k Truths (mini6) ------------------ PowerCD, Mac HD 20, SE, Classic II, IIx, IIvi, PB 170, LC 475, LC 575, Quadra 650, Performa 5200, iMac 333 How you like d'em apples?! |

Do I need Asané Drivers?. I didnt for the Nubus Asanté card in my Quadra. In this article http://www.macaddict.com/magazine/oldmac/97_08.html they say they might not recognize the network. Has any one noticed this?Editor of the printed word, Ministry of 68k Truths (mini6) ------------------ PowerCD, Mac HD 20, SE, Classic II, IIx, IIvi, PB 170, LC 475, LC 575, Quadra 650, Performa 5200, iMac 333 How you like d'em apples?! |

Asante has a good download site with drivers for older products at http://techinfo.asante.com/su_sw_int.htm . Just get the part number off the card(s) and download the needed software. There is also a rather complete manual for older Asante Mac ethernet cards at http://techinfo.asante.com/pdfs/Adapters-10MBit-Internal/MacConigra.pdf .Good Luck! Definately try the Asante drivers. Also, if the image you download has it, run the Troubleshooter utility. That'll tell you if your card is shot."**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

I got the software and manual of the internet. The cards are alright, but no improvement, although it was helpful. I think I'm going to get a new battery and see what that will do. For on thing it should stop all those, "incorrect date" warnings. Where can I buy 4.5 Rayovac batteries in 575's and 5200's?.Editor of the printed word, Ministry of 68k Truths (mini6) ------------------ PowerCD, Mac HD 20, SE, Classic II, IIx, IIvi, PB 170, LC 475, LC 575, Quadra 650, Performa 5200, iMac 333 How you like d'em apples?! |

solder 3 AA or AAA batteries together in series and solder the connector from the old battery to 'em. Thats what I did to my 6360, and it works fine. the built in apple drivers should work with it as long as they are version 1.4.4 or earlier (iThink) the later version dosent work ... the ones built into 7.5.5 work fine on my LC III with a falleron ethernet cardOrcadian MLA Division 68ks Liberated: 2 |

I replaced the battery but still no luck. I downloaded that PDF without much luck. Although from the link I was given I got into Asanté's support area, I could'nt do that before and I'm looking through the articles. I think I might try downgrading my OS to 7.5 or 7.1.Editor of the printed word, Ministry of 68k Truths (mini6) ------------------ PowerCD, Mac HD 20, SE, Classic II, IIx, IIvi, PB 170, LC 475, LC 575, Quadra 650, Performa 5200, iMac 333 How you like d'em apples?! |

Are all you LC's plugged into a hub? Or are you using crossover cables to connect two together?- - - - - - - - - - - - - A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it sure beats a blank stare for starting a conversation. 68k ParaMedic |
