Ok here's my system:
•Quadra 950
•Apple 600i 4x CD drive [from a 7100] [Should be SCSI ID 3]
•SyQuest EZ Flyer drive with 230 mb cartridge [I want to install on this] [Should be ID 0]
•~29mb of RAM
•no nubus cards
•Apple Multiple Scan 14

it boots up, loads the CD data [I think], this time it showed me a WGS 95 logo and now there is a blank menu bar, and vertical Black and Grey stripes below that, and no pointer…

I used the patched [for newer CD drives] boot disk

but now I'm about lost…

Any help would be appreciated ^_^

Thanks

The only thing that occurs to me is that you say you have about 29MB of RAM. That's a strange number -- do you by chance have virtual memory turned on in the Mac OS? If so, turn it off -- A/UX uses its own VM.

Kind of a long shot I know, but that's all I got

you have a regular Apple CD600e?

use the regular boot disk...

and maybe see if you can get a regular hdd... I Don't know if it'll install onto a SyQuest drive :-\

Check out this thread for information on an A/UX compatible installation-time CDROM drive. topic.asp.TOPIC_ID=4736.html
I did sucessfully install A/UX on a Jaz and a Zip100 drive, so I would expect that you should be able to install it on a Syquest Drive.

Well, when I boot either 7.1 or 7.6.1, it says that I have 28.something MB of RAM, and it wont let me turn on Virtual Memory [It's not in the memory control panel on OS 7.6.1]

when I open the case, I can see that all the RAM slots are full…

Yes, a standard Apple 600i 4x CD drive, pulled from a 7100

It did exactly the same thing when I was using a "PowerUser" CD drive, and the normal Boot disk floppy…

and using the 600i, it still does the same thing when I DC the SyQuest drive; and I'd rather not use one of my HDs… [they are too few around here… I could use a 320mb from my Quadra 660av, but that has linux on it, or I could use my 700mb HD from my only 7100 that *has* a HD… but those are all I have that are over 80mb, and "free to use"] I do have an 80mb HD that I DCed while I tried installing A/UX… would that work? [but, Ive heard that A/UX wants 80mb to install…]

Yea… I read the whole thing about newer Apple CD drives and the patch [I downloaded the patched extension from the A/UX Penelope website], and the guy said that he couldnt use a 600i before he used the patch but afterwards it worked fine…

any other ideas?
Thanks

Oh, I forgot to mention that I do have a 2x Apple Caddy CD drive [in my Quadra 660av], but I havent used it for a long time [I used that "PowerUser" one for it instead; but Im pretty sure that it's just the SCSI ribbion that was being bad, since the HD wasnt working some of the time either…]

I could proby get at my Quadra's caddy pretty easy… but I still don't know if that's the problem…
[What does it look like when the CD can't refresh fast enough?]

Try the oldest CD rom drive that you can find, It worked for me and I think that is what the problem is. The SCSI bus resets during the install process and newer drives take too much time to reset themselves and so the installer cannot access them and it panics and quits the install. I really dont think that the driver is to blame here, but rather your CD rom drive.

Well, anyone want to know what the problem was?

-/=The Apple Multiple Scan 14 Display=\-

I tried hooking up my old Macintosh 12" RGB Display
and tada! I can see the main screen of the A/UX installer!

I'm not sure why… [two theories]

but I think it was either that the lack of pins numbers 3 and 8 [top/long row from the left] are missing [on the 14" monitor]
or that the 950 couldnt support it… [should there be a 72pin SIMM in that slot next to the memory banks?]

Anyway, I should be set [although, I'm not exactly sure what to do with it now… Wave a victory flag or something?]

Thanks for the support. ^_^
