I have had no difficulty to bring A/UX 3.01 english onto my old Apple IIfx. The update to 3.1 was difficult, because the installation hangs: one file on CD was defective and so I must install manual...Now my questions: Is it worth to by a Quadra 950 over eBay to bring this beast (A/UX) on a faster platform? Which Apple workes really faster: A IIfx with 68030@40 MHz or a 68040 with 33 MHz? CU Manfred Apple IIfx and A/UX: a very interesting thing! |

I am wondering the same thing since I have both the IIfx and the Q950.

I'd probably put it on the 950, seeing as though it's an '040 and everything. On top of that, I'm not even sure if A/UX is supported on the IIfx."**** em" - Jobs in regards to customers Warrior maclover5 68kMLA Official 68kMLA Detective Number of 68ks Liberated: 7 Number of Contraband (PPC) Liberated from the Dumpster: 1 |

The IIfx does have an FPU and a cool peripheral processor setup that off-loads I/O tasks from the CPU. Although the IIfx ran at 40 MHz, its 68030 was no match for a 68040. A Quadra 950 has about twice the performance of the IIfx.G4From128k by Day: Mild-Mannered Engineer and Trapeze(tm) Artist by Night: Colonel of Truth, Justice, and the Macintosh Way Reserve Officer in 68kMLA Cantankerous Coot Contingent

I say go with whichever machine has more sentimental value to you. I'd personally go with the IIfx, those machines are legendary. That would do it for me.______________________________________ www.32bitwonder.org ...because it's possible |

Thanks for you answers, guys!I have taken now the program "MACTRACKER 2.02" and have compared both machines. Especially the cache is different: Mac IIfx: 0.5 k L1, 32 k L2 Quadra 950: 8 k L1 So it ssems that the L2 of the IIfx gives extra power and the "double power" of the Quadra´s 68040 ist possibly only a 1.5x - what you mean?
