Well, this has taken quite some time after all... First I thought I could install A/UX on a LC475... till I discovered that doesn't work. Then I got myself a Quadra 800 and loaded it with Ram(72mb) and a 1GB-disk, to discover that all of my SCSI-cdromplayers are 'incompatible' with the installer(in the installation there's a reset of the scsi-bus and my drives didn't come back fast enough...). Anyway, a few days ago I ordered some ram(for my SGI) at an online-shop here in Holland and well, I had to pay for shipping anyhow so I searched all categories on their site... to find a refurbished Apple CD300 cheap!

Yesterday I got it and it works flawlessly and I *finally* was able to install A/UX overhere :-)

Well, don't know yet. I've been wanting A/UX for a long time now and it's just for fun purposes actually. At the moment I've got a rather capable webserver(the SGI, a Challenge S R5000SC/180 now with 192mb :-) and a *new* 9GB scsi-disk, my pride&joy) so the A/UX-box is just my new unix-playtoy :-) Just having fun, very important...

I am going to tuen my q950 aws into a ftp server when I get around to it. It will let me figure out A/UX and do something usefull.

I had a server for retro systems like amiga/atari/c64 but that ran under win2k (very nicely I might add). I'm not into unix much, but A/UX for some reason interests me.

Yes, successfully installing A/UX is perhaps one of the most satisfying accomplishments in the realm of Mac68k computing. It's a good thing that I was able to buy a Centris with A/UX preinstalled!
Seriously though, have fun with it. One of these days I'm going to build a network around my Centris, with it acting as a server for an ibook running 10.2.6, two ancient win98 PCs, and a Pentium II running Debian... someday. I hope you can think of a fun project for yourself, too.

cool! one of the coolest thing i've ever done with my mac IIsi is to have A/UX running well on it! I had to use the CDrom drive from my 840av, or from my 578... forgot which.. if I could get a working CDrom drive and all the other junk for my IIsi I actually have the A/UX boot disk and install CD somewhere....

For me the most satisfying thing will be when A/UX finally runs under basilisk. Then the sky's the limit! You could have your nice new dual athlon, or dual G5 system running full screen A/UX at blazing speeds. MacOS 8.1 runs fast in basilisk on my 1ghz laptop so A/UX must be lightning! It would also speed up porting apps to A/UX. Then someone could release like an A/UX freeware CD with things like GCC, Gmake, xmms, gtk+, latest shells, ssh, etc etc etc.
