I thought it would be fun to start a bit of a community fun. Every week I am going to try and put a different frontpage to www.68kmla.org. You can go and check out this week's front page.Have ideas for this? Then post away and heck, maybe you could design next week's intro page as long as it's mac orientated and funny. :) |

Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" I have alot of posts... if you don't like it than I don't know what to say. |

How about: 1) A picture of a bunch of 30-pin SIMMs that spell out 68kMLA 2) A working, randomized 68k-of-the-week feature ("The page sponsored by kastigir's Powerbook 180"). It could even be randomly drawn for each page view to make it the 68k-of-the-visit. 3) ID that Mobo: weekly (or daily?) contest with a picture of a 68k Mac mobo and a discussion thread on which machine it is. 4) More slogans: "68k Macs -- Still insanely great" "Long Live 68k Macs because they really do live long" "68k Macs -- from the days before bloatware ruled the Earth" "Never send a PPC Mac to do a 68k Mac's job" "68k Macs do it without RISC:" "Live long and compute long with 68k Macs" 5) More complex feature: read the visitor's name (from the 68kmla cookie), look up the name of one of their 68k's in the DB of member's computers, ask them how their 68k is doing today, if they don't have a 68k in the DB then insist that they liberate a 68k Mac right away!Sorry if some of these are carp, I went for quantity, rather than quality. Good ideas!I actually made a fun picture making fun of the iMacs and making 68k's seem better. The title says "iMac" and below is a row of some of the colors they used. Then below it says: "Even enough candy will make you puke all six flavours. Stick with the basics." It's not complete, but it is sending the message that while Apple is making fancy colors and eye candy, we have machines that are simple, robust and do the job. I'm going to update the pages in a few days to show you all that one. And, no flames on the fact that a 68k mac is making fun of a iMac.

This week's winner is.....Fire Is Fast! Combining an earlier idea with his, we now have this week's splash page. Check it out at www.68kmla.org. Also this week we are testing a new frame page which will alow you to access most 68KMLA functions on the forum with a bit more ease. So, it's not 100% finished but as I work on it, it can only get better. Why? Let's put it this way as per this week's splash page. It's no Microsoft, no brainer.

Excellent work! Reminds me of the slogan "I don't do Windows" and "Friends don't let friends use Windows." BTW, I wonder if frames are a good thing? I noticed that when I clicked on "active topics" on 68kmla.org, I get the forums with both the black top buttons of 68kmla.org and the forum function links. Also, frames hide the URL that one is going to. I'm not saying its a problem, just something to ponder. Keep up the great work! Yes, this is true. Sadly I can't filter out what is passed from the forums to the browser, so probably I will replace some function buttons on the top 68kmla.org to be something else more 68kmla.org specific. We'll see. It depends on what limited technology I can use in the jump point. Don't want those 68k browsers to have a heart attack.

I will use that for nest week's page. I will do the image up fresh, because JPEG has too many artifacts, PNG is a nice quality format, and renders text good.JPEG is known to not handle text properly, must be a side effect of the commpresion technology. But it's ok the image will be exactly as it was.

G4from128K, I redid the frame thing, hope it's better now. Some of the links won't work till I install various extras on the server. But the idea is that soon more stuff can be on that site as long as it's just simple stuff not complex. I added the Close Frame button should folks want to close the frame and see where they are going. That button doesn't work 100% yet as I need to create a custom page, like a mirror of the Site Map, which doesn't contain a reference to the frames. But I think so far it is ok. And I am getting the new splash pages ready. I'm digesting some code to see if I can iether do some random splash pages or if I can just make a http refresh for that splash page.. We'll see.

Ok, have fun with all the new splash pages. There are 17 in all so far. And yes I'm still recovering from that crash, I'll get those others up asap. (geekwurkz, your site was down today? any idea on that, wanted to get pic) If you want to view the splash screen in order, type in http://www.68kmla.org/img/1.png and then replace the 1 sequntially untill 17 to get all images. Enjoy!

Sorry I have been busy lately, trying to get a whole mess sorted out, I will be adding those new images and the ones people sent via e-mail.Life is just hectic and well, kinda odd right now. Plus the heat is killing me, I hate weather this warm. I prefer ice cold storms with thunder and lightening and LOTS of rain.

one small thing ... if you changequote: <frame src="splash.php" name="mainFrame" scrolling="YES" noresize>
to .... quote: <frame src="splash.php" name="mainFrame" scrolling="auto">
then the scroll bars work right when you go to the forum from the top button Orcadian MLA Division 68ks Liberated: 2 |
