Ever wanted to completely disable sound on your 630, or PowerPC Performa? Just disconnect the box with the volume controls and IR port! I'm serious! I once tried it on mine, and the machine booted up fine, but all sound was disabled. This may be useful if you don't want your 5 year old brother playing <insert name of popualar kids game with annoying sound effects> with the volume turned all th e way up, or if you are using the machine in a lab environment.

Another thing you could do is disconnect the speaker... That is if you feel like doing a little bit more work than jerking out the box....

I did the unplug speaker trick on my 7300 when little brother was browsing <insert name of website with loads of annoying sounds here>....
it's real easy because the monitor and keyboard are on the floor where he uses them... but the 7300 is up on my standing workstation...

I know, but then your kid can just get his walkman speakers out, plug 'em into the machine, and you're back to square one. This completely disables the sound.
