What to do with a NeXT monitor…

I recently aquired a NeXT "MegaPixel Display", at a government surplus sale [computers/office equip, by the pallet], and I'm not sure what to do with it? [I didn't get a NeXT cube with it]
It's such a cool looking monitor I would hate to get rid of it but I don't know of any NeXT to Apple monitor/power adapters [are there any?]

Well, Thanks.

If I open my window all the bugs will get in… That's just one more reason to use a Mac!

Get on eBay and find a Turbo NeXTStation with ADB (or a non-ADB NeXT with keyboard and mouse). They're not too expensive, and NeXTSTEP is a great OS. NeXTSTEP and OpenStep are available on Hotline and are legal to have if you own the NeXT hardware.

The monitor is B&W and uses a proprietary 13w3 connector, IIRC.

These guys might have an adapter for your monitor:

http://www.monitorworld.com/Monitors/Next_page.html

But I agree with oldmacman. Getting a NeXT to go with your monitor is the cooler thing to do.

Correction (maybe): Some sources say that you may not be able to use ADB peripherals from Macs with ADB NeXTstations, so try to get a NeXTstation with keyboard and mouse.

Humm… The monitor website doesn't appear to have the connector that the monitor uses [19pin? looks like a wide Mac monitor port?]

On ebay, I found a few systems [either $25-some, or $400+; plus s/h]
but I'm not sure if I want to buy a NeXT computer on ebay… [I'm going to try and check the Gov. surplus store again]

Well, Thanks.

Nothing proprietary about a 13W3 connector...

Sorry, my bad. It uses a proprietary connector with both the monitor signals and the keyboard, mouse, and sound lines built in, IIRC.

redrouteone, Im in Tualatin Oregon, 97062 [a little bit S of Portland]

So… would that happen to be near by?

but if I could get some $ out of you for it, that would probly make up for not having a NeXT box : )

but if anyone wanted me to ship it to them and pay me something for it, there's a UPS distrib center in town…

oh and Cory… it might just be that it's almost 3am, but I don't know *what* you mean by, "nice next IW ya?"

anyway, Thanks

actually, the IW is a concept,

Intrikit Weaver project *WAS* going to get me honors credit for 9th grade, I moved halfway thru and it hasn't evergotten going since January when I had to pull the plug (literally) on IW....

I have been planning for nearly half of a year the day when I got a new server, it's been every imaginable different computer in existance, ranging from my MacIIsi, the iMac, my TiBook, a 400MHz PII, Xserve and many other things...

If I EVER get the hardware, I probably wont' be allowed to leav eit on...

IW is basically though, a server that intricately weeaves many different computing platforms together, via file serving, an HTTP server, and maybe other things like eMail and probably FTP (IW did have FTP)

Well said, Derekcat! An Apple a day keeps the bugs from the Windows away.

I am near Dallas, Texas. Shipping would be pretty expensive, I would say about 30 dollars. And you would still need a keyboard and mouse. You would most likely be better off trying to find one locally. I would love to get the monitor and get mine running but I am short of funds and space.

Small world that you are from Tualatin. The code name for Intel's PIII processor at 1.13GHz and up was Tualatin. We got in an argument at work about how to pronounce the name. So I looked up the city's web page and called the library. The woman on the phone thought it was kind of weird that the only thing I wanted was to know how to pronounce the name of the city. It solved that argument but my boss still pronounces it wrong. Thought we were both wrong. He says that it is tat-a-lawn and I said that it is two-all-a-tin. At least I was closest.

humm… you could tell him that a Tualatin-ian says that you're right [that makes two people you have backing you up :) ]

well, since the monitor thing wont work… if you need a comp or few… check the trading post, topic "~8 Macs"
